my first pinball machine.

an old Avon Juke Kubilee. was a cool find for about $40.

but...im sad with it.

the board does not automatically keep track of my score. even though it should. the pins that are meant to be hit should light up, and they do not .

so i have no clue how to do the score in this.

is there anyway i could fix this up myself with no knowledge of these things, or should i get in contact with someone that knows these things better and have them fix it?

I had this machine when I was a kid. My grandmother also has one, but the lights didn't work on her machine either (broken wire).

The machine is simple in design, so you (or a toy repairman) should be able to take it apart and fix the problem(s) with very little trouble.

The lights are all stringed together. If there is a break in the wire, then none of the lights are going to work.

The score mechanism runs on a few gears. Most likely one of them is gummed up or the contacts aren't giving any power to them.

Edit: I already see the problem with the score mechanism from the pictures. The reset button (the plastic yellow button on top) is smashed in. In other words, the gears aren't getting any power because of it.

i think this coming weekend i will try taking it apart and seeing if i can do it by myself, i hope i can.


but i have noticed, the ball is almost covered in rust, where would i be able to find a new one ?

It original came out in 1979, but there have been many iterations of the machine from Avon over the years.

Just go to a place that sells ball bearings (hardware store), show the ball to the clerk and ask if they have a ball bearings of that size.

Personally, I would just use a rust remover on the current ball.

got some new D batteries, put them in and come to find out the lights still work!

so, if i am right on this, all i need to fix is the score board. and get the rust off of the ball.

Edit: well, that, and the sound. some of the sound just doesn't feel right when playing on it.

Edit again: this is such a change from playing Zen Pinball. i can really tell how people that had/have full tables made a profit on these.

The score board is removable from the body for easy storage. There are four metal contacts IIRC. If those are dirty, then it can distort the sound and screw up the scoring.

it doesn't wanna turn with all the other gears, and i have no lube to make it spin...what are my other options?


Edit: its that, or the one its meant to spin. i just tried spinning it with my fingers, and the long one that goes to the score board wont move when spinning the small one, the small one just stays stuck and doesn't effect the long one.

nope, not that i know of, my mom doesn't know too.

GOD ******* ******. i flipped the back over to see if the yellow score reset thing still worked, didn't hold the other part that moves the scores and the brown wire that connects to one of the parts ripped off of one piece. this is gonna take longer then i thought...

time to get a soldering gun.

fixed that wire.

looked at the bottom of the table part, took out the glass (its really plastic) and lifted up the lights, a wire is missing from the left flipper! good thing i asked my mom to pick up some wire along with the soldering gun, else i would be boned. the score board STILL does not work though
