Zen Pinball 2 (Wii U) "You need an active internet connection" issue

I have an active connection to the Internet on my Wii U as I successfully downloaded Zen Pinball 2 and am able to use the web browser, etc, but I am getting the message that I am not connected to the Internet when playing the game. I'd really like to see the leaderboards and see my status against friends online.

I couldn't find any network settings within the game that I needed to activate.

Any ideas?
