I was going to jump in on a few topics I have been browsing lately but I thought it might be better to start here for my first post and stretch my self-known rambling forum fingers here where it can cause the least annoyance.
I'll try to make sense but I'll probably just have a long list of random things that might help me organize actual constructive posts elsewhere on these forums. I have had a lot of questions and comments that I have kept in my skull as I've very lightly stalked these forums from afar, using them (until most recently) just to absorb a bit of helpful info that has moved me from being completely horrible to almost decent in Marvel Pinball. Still I'm a far ways off from competing with most of if not all the reals High Scores I sometimes browse on the leader boards.
First off I have to admit that I was never a big pinball person before too long ago. I had a small bit of an addiction to the silly Pinball 3D Space Cadet thing that used to come with older Windows platforms for about a 3 month streak but that was many moons ago; maybe some other random instances of pinball play but I never was very good or played much. I got started really when I picked up "Marvel Pinball" on my PS3. It was weird timing for a lot of reasons I could ramble about a lot more that I already know I'm going to. I was kind of kinda disappointed with deciding to buy a long term sub to PlayStation Plus after not much return of investment. Recently is has been beyond awesome as I actually own only about 4-5 games in hard copies but now have a lot of choices relatively speaking (just haven't bought Skyrim like I promised myself after renting/borrowing it for a week...but I digress...actually this whole post is a digression but anyways).
It first started when PS gave away several games as the apology for having the PSN down for so long after that saga. But of all the dozens of games I have DL'ed, played for a few minutes or for many hours, deleted or saved, none have brought me the joy that the gem of Marvel Pinball has. I picked it up for free along with the somewhat newly released Captain America and Fantastic Four (if memory serves me right) as part of the PlayStation Plus deal. I had literally just lost my job (coincidentally freeing up a lot of my time) and had recently been slowly wading into Comics/Manga/Anime and most specifically the Marvel U. I'm still very new to it all but it probably seriously started with Iron Man's theatrical release all the way up to me ripping through Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run and slowly going through some of "Plant Hulk" and "World War Hulk" prior to seeing Avenger's in IMAX 3D (all inspired by reading about new and playing old Marvel Pinball tables) while at the same time going through whatever Netflix has of the Marvel U and other subtle nerd seeds I think that where planted along time ago.
Though I have already gone on quite a bit I'll try to sum up a few things that I might hope to discuss in other sections here at the Zen Studios Forums. My new found dedication to Marvel Pinball (and the crawling under my skin to get at the Avenger's Chronicle release) hopefully will last as my visits and posts here in the forums hopefully do. I know I'm personally prone to extreme dedication/addiction to games and their related communities but it seems so suddenly leave me and fast as it initially grabs a hold of me. Just to name a few where my early days of video games (I remember Golden Eye probably being the first game I played way to much/often especially mutli-player), my past on and off again addictions to GTA titles, my several years of hardcore MMORPG addiction and guldie Vent chat that has only been prevented from being picked back up by the failure of all my computers and lack of being able to afford/repair them (they tried to bring me back to my guild for the Star Wars MMO but my one hope of using my old college laptop was ruined when the video card burned out hours after dusting it off and paying for a virus fix that had made it unbootable for more than a year), and my almost 3 year addiction to a radio show on SiriusXM that had me listening almost every day, posting on forums, and visiting a convention typed thing in Vegas (stopped now because I can't really afford the subscription and my truck blew up along with the loss of my job where I was on the road 2 hours a day making the radio a big part of my life).
I have gone on more that a lot so far, mostly not even about Zen or Marvel Pinball. I could go on forever, it seems to be one of my few talents to ramble especially in pseudo-social environments. I hope i actually get to the point where I can compete with the real scores on some of the talbes, I'll especially hope to stay afloat with the new way of dedication that the Avenger's Chronicles will most likely bring out of Zen Pinball players. For now I am just finally getting decent scores in the hundreds of millions while barely skipping over the billion mark on a few and starting to beat more than just one or two of the wizard modes. There are a lot of questions and comments I have especially about Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Blade, X-Men, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Thor, Spider-Man, Captain America, and Ghost Rider (haha I just listed all of them!)
One of the more recent things I read was the patch notes for fixes on the Xbox side of things mostly relating to the Fantastic Four table and the questions it raised about resetting the scoreboard (also curious if these would be fixed on the PS3 side for just waiting for ZP2). I will make a post (not a stupidly long one like this) over there but about the "40x glitch"...I had read about this only very recently and oddly accidentally encountered it even more recently. I had never considered this a glitch after reading about it but I can understand people being upset with it. I had only barely brushed past 200 million on the table until one day last week or so. I have on several occasions had problems with the Negative Zone ball save and with being awarded Extra Balls. I was under the impression that you got an extra ball for performing a manual Invisible Flip (as I had once done so twice in a row but only getting one extra ball). In this particular instance I once more pulled off two in one game, not much for most but a lot for myself. The first time I got nothing I could notice, especially not a extra ball light. The second time I had just completed the Human Torch as the 5th finished mission, bounced the ball to the right orbit to start a manual Invisible Flip and was confused/astonished when I didn't receive an extra ball (again) but I saw "400,000,000" float across as a score for doing the manual flip. I went on to finish the wizard mode for the first time (in my second attempt) and my score was somewhere around 700 million. I was almost dancing and I didn't feel guilty because it seemed like a legit way to accidentally take advantage of the short 40x bonus. The next day or so I was almost going to get to wizard mode again but drained just after completing the Human Torch mission and I unintentionally "used" the "40x" glitch as I had 10x Bonus at the time and put a mark of over 1.2 billion up (I quickly lost my last few balls trying to start/finish wizard mode). I had read about this "glitch" and had in the back of my mind considered trying it but ended up doing it on accident. Now I feel bummed that I pretty much doubled my previous score by total accident in what had always seemed to me like a harmless side effect of 40 x 10 = 400x EOB Bonus because I really wasn't skilled enough to even attempt pulling it off on purpose and I figured if you could you'd get a fairly high score anyways but now I'm very mixed about it.
I'm going to end this here...I know most likely this wont be read and i didn't make sense or talk much about pinball but just rambled forever about nothing but anyways, I finally signed up and made a post. This first one will probably outpace all of my future ones put together but who knows.
