I have owned the game for about two weeks and am fairly decent now, having attained all the campaign stars. I cannot seem to find any online player matches so add me as a friend on XBLA if you are looking for an online partner to play ranked matches. There does not appear to be a way to invite friends to matches but "preferring" a player seems to help the matchmaking process greatly.
