Thank you for your quick response.
I have done the following and still no luck.
I checked for system update and it was up to date.
I did the hard reset turned off the system and removed the power plug for a good 3-5mins. and reconnected it. (just unplugged it from the xboxone) Not the power side don't think it makes a difference)
Changed the power setting to ENERGY SAVING (how long does the XBox one take to boot up this way?) mines still boots up quite quickly.
At the home menu of the XBOX (windows 7home) i logged player 1 with the main account used to purchased it and player 2 with the 2nd account.
THEN i load up the game and go multiplayer> Local > Versus
Playerone is logged in and player 2 still needs to "Press A to Join"
So I go and press A and see that player 2 is already logged in with the account when choosing the account. But i click it anyway.
Same thing happens
Game goes into a quick loading sub-screen and then
player 2 gets no respond and can no-longer press A to join or anything.
Thanks again hopefully we can figure this out =)
Have you tried reinstall the game?Comment

Well, after messing around with the game for a bit, I have figured out the issue I believe. The game does not support sharing gold. My girlfriend is gold my account wasn't and we couldn't get it to work, for hahas we logged in to her sons account which is gold and boom no problems at all.Comment

Same issue as the rest
Seeing the same issue as everyone else replying to this thread.
Got the latest game update. Updated the xbox. Changed all of the settings. Had both profiles sign in at the home screen. Started the game. Selected versus. When the second profile presses A to join, they are asked what profile they want to use, and upon selecting it are returned to the army select screen and cannot select anything.
Press A to select message is still on screen, but the second player profile can select nothing.
Occasionally when the second player is attempting to join, the name of the profile that is signed in first will change to the second player profile name but still no functionality from the second player controller.
Thanks for looking into this issue.Comment

still no fix?
I purchased Castle Storm: Definitive Edition last weekend and was excited to begin playing the couch co-op portion of the game with my boyfriend. However, all modes under the "Multiplayer" option do not work for us on the Xbox One. This problem occurs when the second player hits A to join and goes to the sign in gamertag overlay. After choosing a profile it goes back the screen before signing in, but still says "Press A to join..." and the "Next" button is still grayed out.
I searched the forum for any other potential users having this issue and it seems I'm the only one. In short, multiplayer is unplayable for me at this point in all of the modes below.
Multiplayer > Local > Versus
Multiplayer > Local > Survival
Multiplayer > Local > Hero Survival
Multiplayer > Online > Versus > Ranked Match
Multiplayer > Online > Versus > Quick Match
Multiplayer > Online > Versus > Custom Match
Multiplayer > Online > Survival > Ranked Match
Multiplayer > Online > Survival > Quick Match
Multiplayer > Online > Survival > Custom Match
Multiplayer > Online > Hero Survival > Ranked Match
Multiplayer > Online > Hero Survival > Quick Match
Multiplayer > Online > Hero Survival > Custom MatchComment

I also have the same issue. Xbox released it as a free game this month to Gold members. Gold family membership. Works fine for one player.. cant select a second. Any progress. Its pretty bad that this thread has been open since last year.Comment

Just downloaded via the Xbox Live Gold promo this month. Same issue here.
First thing I did after installing was go to local multiplayer. Hitting 'A' prompts the sign-in flow, but the game does not register the player upon signing in. Doesn't seem to recognize input from 2nd controller at all in general.
Tried playing the first level in the single player campaign and going back to multiplayer. Still no luck.Comment

Any updates?
My son's just started playing this game but as many have described the local multi-player is not working. I tried the fix mentioned above but it was unsuccessful. They both signed in on the home page and when first player enters the game and sets up a local match and second player tries to push A to join, a window pops up asking who the second player is and then nothing further can be done. Both boys have gold accounts so that is not an issue.Comment
