Connected yellows with power-ups

I just can't figure out how to handle these. I tried everything out that I can think of, nothing worked.

I'm currently just ignoring the connection since the power-up is worth more, but with losing the multiplier everytime I'll never reach the top. Unless this is not supposed to be doable. But why would you include undoable things?

Tap and hold for the first enemy, release for the second enemy, then tap again for the powerup.

Huh, guess I messed up the timing when I tried that (several times in a row - I can do the weirdest mistakes sometimes <__<). Anyway, I got it now. Thanks for the help.
