I encountered same problem . It was was because I didn't have both my monitor and Rift plugged into same GPU . As a workaround until I can connect both to same GPU , I unplug my tv from computer once rift is at main home and select the pinball game from there . I've been told by oculus support that once I do connect both to same GPU this problem will be solved . Hope this helps as this game is one of my favorites on here so far .

        Found and fixed

I encountered a similar, if not the same, problem. I had originally installed Pinball FX2 VR on a computer that I had upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Everything worked fine. Tonight I tried to install it on the new computer that I built especially for VR, and this computer was a fresh Windows 10 install. Pinball FX2 VR would simply exit immediately whenever started.

I tried running the program by double clicking on its icon instead of starting it from Oculus Home, and an error about directx was reported. I can't remember the exact error but it was something like a missing dxcompiler_43.dll being missing.

Anyway, turns out that the solution was to download the Microsoft DirectX standalone installer and install it. This installed older versions of DirectX, including DirectX 10 which I think is what Pinball FX2 VR depends upon. Once installed, the game ran fine after that.

The basic problem here appears to be that Pinball FX2 VR doesn't come with an installer for the version of DirectX that it requires, nor does it check to make sure that the system has that version installed. It just assumes that you'll have DirectX 10, which if you don't, you'll have to go manually find and install DirectX 10.

I recommend that Zen Studios consider installing DirectX 10 along with Pinball FX2 VR for those systems which need it.
