  • 2 Pre-Purchase Questions

    Hi,

First one's a bit subjective! over the years we have bought Pinball FX for multiple PlayStation platforms, either PS2 and PS3, or PS3 and PS4, I forget exactly, also Windows Store (PC) and there have been a bunch of tables bought along the way. I've had a Rift since they were available in the UK and now I'm seeing the VR version.

Is this just going to be the same old thing again or is it really a bit of a must-see? Just wondering - said it was a bit subjective.

On a more serious note. Say I decide to purchase, does it make any difference if I go for Steam or Oculus? On the Steam store there are reviews complaining of the performance (some quite vocally!). I have had some games such as Elite where I have bought the Steam version and if I then enter the Steam CD key shown in the Steam version into the Oculus store I can get the Oculus version too. But never yet the other way round. Is that the case here too?

Hopefully I've explained that well enough.

My theory is that I prefer using Oculus versions as it's running anyway and is therefore a bit more seamless, but I prefer to buy on Steam since who knows whether one day in the future I might sell the rift and switch to Vive. Unlikely I know, but by buying on Steam where possible I remain compatible with both.

    Thanks.

I as well owned Pinball Fx2 on xbox360, windows store, steam and now steamvr so I get where your coming from.

That said..it is a dramatically better experience in VR the tables are finally realized with full cabinets and back glass's the verticality of ramps and rails and toys etc all are incredibly defined..even tho for the most part I have a fairly static view while playing its the subtle shifts to the left and right and up and down that shifts your perspective in 3d so you can line your shotup better that really brings them to life.

Without a doubt I would say Steam since i have a Vive. If you used steam before for your gaming and have friends online etc its the best way to go.If you don't use steam for other games etc then Home might be fine. Performance will be about the same regardless.(i even originally bought it on home and used revive to play it on vive till native support came out, performance was almost the same but you can't buy any extra tables).

Performance could be better but its not bad on a i2600k @ 4.3 with a 970 i was running with 2xaa on medium detail.. more sparkly then I would like honestly. upgrading to a 1080 with same cpu and running the game directly from an exe shortcut I can now run on very high with 4 to 8xaa(couple tables like secrets of the deep i have to drop the aa).

Tables like Biolab honestly aren't that great cuz they weren't that great to begin with, but tables like WildWest Rampage, Epic Quest, Walking Dead,Castlestorm all really really are so much better in VR.

Thank you for the detailed answer, probably a better one than I expected

I might give it a whirl later. I've been on Steam for 10 years and have over 90 games on there (as I was quite shocked to learn recently!) so I guess there is no problem with continuing with Steam. Performance wise I have a GTX1080 on a 6700K system so I should be laughing I guess.

Pinball FX is very well suited to VR. I haven't encountered any performance issues playing the Steam version on Oculus with a 980Ti. They're on sale at the moment so at least give the core pack a go - You'll probably end up buying the lot

90 games sounds quite restrained, I was horrified to discover I have 743 (77% of which I've never played!)
