  • A Legend Returns achievement not unlocking

Not sure if this is a known issue, but I met the requirements for this achievement earlier today and the achievement did not pop. Right outlane to bang back, kept the ball in play, etc. Also tried a bang back from the center drain (no side outlane) and that did not trigger it either. Haven't succeeded in my attempts to get a bang back from the left outlane.

No one has unlocked it on TrueAchievements.com yet:

How to unlock the A Legend Returns achievement in Pinball FX2: Save Cap's ball from draining down an outlane on Marvel's The Avengers table. (Single player only)

I have the achievement on the 360 version and did almost the exact same thing to unlock it.

Well technically saving a ball from the right outlane is a death save, not a bang back, since the ball is bounced off the wall directly leading to the drain. Assuming Zen have been as pedantic as me with both the geometry and the terminology, to be a bang back it would have to be from the left outlane. We should try that before confirming it is glitched.

    I'll give it a go but I am a little rusty with the damned things. What makes it worse is that;

1). The nudge in PFX2 is only just enough to perform a save of any kind (needs to be at least 50% more powerful in my opinion, more like The Pinball Arcade where I can perform 3 or 4 in a row on some tables).

2). It's a lot harder to drain the ball down the left outlane than the right on this table. At least, it is for me.

3). I suck at bang backs (i.e left side saves). Something to do with right handedness I think.

I think perhaps that with bang backs being a bit of an advanced technique, (if I'm right) the specific nature of the bang back required, and the fact that only 169 tracked gamers even have the table, could account for why no-one has unlocked it yet on TA. I will persevere.

Ok, so, I literally just fires up the table and did it first time. I uploaded a video:

FYI, I recommend switching nudge to the D-pad.

Drain your first ball (to lose the ball save), let the second ball (automatically shot into play obviously) go straight between the flippers onto the outlane. Bang back from there.

If that's exactly what you did Globalizer, and it didn't pop, then sorry, I can't help.

You can't perform deathsaves on Zen tables. It requires a unique drain configuration.

In regards to the bangback trophy, if I recall correctly, it won't pop if the ball save is active.

On the other games the ball has to travel so far up past the flippers for the achievement to pop as well

I got the ball to pop up just barely far enough to get it the rest of the way in with the right flipper. It was enough to keep the ball in play, but apparently not enough to get the achievement.

With there not being enough power in the nudge you'll be very lucky to get this achievement I wouldn't even bother trying until its fixed

Try switching the nudge to the D-pad like I suggested. It has much more punch. I switched and literally did it first time.

Well crap, that's what I did, though I didn't ride up the lane below the flippers like you did, I just bounced it right back. Even used the same technique to get the ball into that location. Good to know it is obtainable, will give it another couple dozen tries!

Interestingly, I was able to drain on the right outlane on the 360 version and got the achievement with relative ease. Did notice the nudge is a bit weak on the X1 version but was able to get it to bump up a couple of times. Sans achievement, of course. Will try the D-pad suggestion as well. Thanks!

Alright, I got it, but it is finicky as hell. You don't actually need to have the ball save off (I was doing both balls just to practice) but I did get a full-fledged bang back and put the ball back into play (even tried the whole thing again) and it did not pop. A few tries later, I got a bang back that looked a lot like yours, and it popped. Weird.

                    Anyway, thanks for the help!

What a pain in the bottom, easy to set up, moderate to execute with a bit of practise but will it pop???

Been trying a number of times myself now to pop this achievement but no luck so far (nice vid by the way Ozzpot!)

                        Thanks!

Well, The Globalizer has a theory that it might be something to do with the amount of time the ball is in the outlanes. If he's right, nudging the table at the moment the ball strikes the outlane wall (what my friends and I called a 'death save' rather than a 'bang back') will not do.

Maybe the game needs the ball to be in the outlanes for a certain amount of time (perhaps 1000ms) to register that it is in peril in the first place. As you can see in my video, the ball was allowed to run an inch up the outlane before I nudged it back into play on the way back. Long enough for the conditions to be met anyway.

It's just a theory, but it has worked for a couple of people I know.

My attempts have me letting the ball roll up a bit and performing the nudge when it starts rolling back down again (similar to the video). Not sure if there is a separate condition not being met.

Well, I had a theory that the ball save can't be active (as banging back the ball under these circumstances isn't really saving the ball, it's saving the ball save), but The Globaliser popped it while ball save was active so that can't be it.

I don't mean to patronise, but you're definitely using Captain America's ball, right? Just trying to eliminate the obvious...

Can understand needing to cover all basses, I was very very very particular to making sure the Captain America ball was selected... hard to go wrong on that front considering you don't have to particularly do anything to select it.
