Why no ranked games or tournaments?

No one ever plays any ranked games. I'm wondering if it is because they dont know how to switch from "player match" to "ranked"? It is sort of hidden and wish Zen would consider redesigning their menu system, to make joining multiplayer games simpler. Also no tournaments since last year. Cant Zen have it automatically announce a tournament every so often and start automatically? Or do they need to call microsoft to access the servers to start the tournament?

It has to be approved by Microsoft. It's the same for the PS3/Vita versions, which has to be approved by Sony first.
