Disappointed with Steam version / PC Version

The simple fact that the PC version support 1920x1200 and antialiasing is a big plus.
And then, the portrait mode. This is fantastic. Try it !
This is a relatively young feature, sometime the DMD is positionned right on the flipper, when set to bottom right, but it is clearly a way to re-discover the tables...

For me the steam version is a clear winner for these 2 features.

I don't understand this statement at all. The PS3 runs at 720P while the PC version is a full 1080P. The PC version also has anti-aliasing. The tables on my PC look light-years better than the PS3 version.

I'm seeing reams of detail that I never even picked up on while playing on the PS3. Also the frame rate is much much higher on the PC, which means the ball tracks more smoothly which means it is much more controllable.

In general the performance of the PS3 with it's 7 year old hardware is abysmally weak compared to my gaming PC which was only mid-range when I got it 3 years ago.

It's personal opinion and everyone is entitled to have one. I was speaking for myself.

Regarding framerate, I find PC and PS3 are both are silky smooth (though the PC version does stutter quite badly for me in attract mode, it is generally OK once in game - Radeon 7750 1gb). I agree 1080p AA looks better but personally it is less noticable for me as I play on a bigscreen TV across the room.

What I do notice is the drop in sound quality; Dolby Digital surround on the PS3 version sounds absolutely fantastic. Some of the sound effects are transformed when heard in 5.1 and for me audio detail is just as much appreciated as graphical detail. Also, the online multiplayer on PS3 is a hoot and is one of the few PS3 games that utilises the PS Eye ingame, further adding to the sociable element. I've had many happy evenings with friends, chatting online while playing ZP / ZP2.

I am glad to have Pinball FX2 on my PC and laptop (though it needs the Windows 8 version "low quality" setting before it will be playable on my creaky laptop) as it means I finally get to play the Xbox tables!! Something oft requested on this very forum by many of us.

My PS3 version will remain my favoured version for now and it just got better with the release of the Starwars Pinball standalone. It has some lovely looking menus, a Jedi progression system, innovative trophies, ONLINE multiplayer and a raft load of Starwars theme music to boot. All these nice gaming extras at zero extra cost (the tables just unlock from ZP2).

No direct play - just friends leaderboards for high score competition. Tournaments are basically limited-time global leaderboards - you have a few days to submit your best score; there's no real-time head to head play.

I have to confess to feeling a bit the same about the Steam version ( sorry to say )

Sad to hear about the online multiplayer (with cam) not being added as I am in that small group of people who do use it on the PS3 to game with friends across the pond.

nsorens cast doubt on PvZ table coming to PC over on the Steam forums due to contractual issues and we already know that Ninja Gaiden Sigma II is a PS3 exclusive table.

Only stereo audio on the PC as opposed to 5.1 on PS3.

3D display support on the PS3 that is absent on PC.



I don't think I will be migrating to PS4 once my PS3 goes up in smoke (these days I am finding PC gaming to be more affordable and more accessible) so I was looking to the Steam version to be a direct replacement and the finest version due to the range of performance that can be had with PCs. Having bought nearly all the tables on PS3 & Android, I had been ready to do it one last time on the PC.

I don't mean to sound too negative and it's still nice to have the game on PC but I suppose I had raised my expectations too much expecting it to be semi "Next Gen" with higher res textures, better lighting etc & more social features.

My suspicion was that it would be the Steam version that would provide the base model for then porting to the PS4 and Xbox Infinity, given that they all run x86 architecture. Instead, it's the Windows 8 app store version has been ported to Steam with just a tweak here and there (anti aliasing, strange bloom lighting on ball etc).

Yep! The PS3/Vita version of ZP2 got 26 tables at launch.

1. I can't answer this, but I never used it on the Xbox version. Maybe not many people did.

It's been confirmed by Solitude (on another thread) that only about 5% of the gamers were playing this feature on the Xbox 360 and PS3/Vita. The Wii-U version also doesn't contain the multiplayer mode.

2. They are aware of this issue; many people have complained about it. Should be an easy fix.

3. 23 tables is quite a lot to start out with. If you played each one for just 2 hours (not nearly enough time to master it), that's almost 50 hours already! Don't worry, they will release more over time (both new ones and a lot of the ones previously on Xbox).
