  • ESB table questions

I'm enjoying the ESB table, but after quite a few plays I can't comprehend how to activate some of the features. There's so much going on at times that it's difficult to catch the instructions on that tiny dot matrix display. I've read the in-game guide, but it's not at all complete. Here are some miscellaneous questions that I have:

What do the LANDO rollovers do?
How do you increase the multiplier?
How do you light the HYPERSPACE letters, and what do they do?
What's up with the Cloud City spinny thing? What am I doing when I push the "launch" button?
Every once in a while I see something about Bespin Trips, but I can't tell what triggers it. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with Cloud City.

And an aside: is it just me, or are the scenes ridiculously hard to complete? After what seemed to be about fifty tries I finally completed Scene 1. But downing the AT-AT in Scene 2 is crazy hard; hitting alternating ramps *five* times? (I suck at transferring the ball from one paddle to the other.) I get that I'm no pinball wizard, but I can't imagine ever being good enough to complete even two scenes, much less six. I've currently got the table set to give me 10 balls, and I still can't make any progress on the scenes.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The best I've gotten is halfway through scene 5, but I can help a little while waiting for the better players....

    1. LANDO allows you to activate the kickbacks. BUT, after you spell it, you have to hit the left ramp (Empire) to light the left kickback, or the right ramp (Yoda/Cloud City) for the right kickback. If both are activated, hitting both ramps gives you the Sabre Saver, which serves as a permanent ball save (until the ball drains).

    2. Spell SKY, WAL, or KER, on the rollovers on the top of the table. Use the flippers to change what is lit (just like LANDO).

    3. It's a certain right ramp shot. The diverter has to be set to where it heads towards the plunger. Don't remember off hand how to set it. Once HYPERSPACE is spelled, it activates a multi-ball.

    4. It's in preparation for the Cloud City multiball. I haven't out what the launch bit does.

    5. Not sure, but I think it's a FORCE hurry-up mode game. May be wrong.

You'll get the hang of it eventually. Usually one portion of the scene is real tough while the others are relatively easy.
I've noticed the scenes are often just tougher versions of minigames in the table (the AT-AT hunt mini game lets you hit either ramp, while you can only do the lighted ramp in the scene mission, for example).

If you wish, in addition to giving yourself the extra balls, you can also adjust the settings to easy or very easy, which will change the mission requirements, so you may have more time and/or be required to hit less shots, etc. You can also increase ball save duration and tilt warnings, stuff like that.

4 - Pushing the launch button will drop the ball on the bumpers but only when the ball is on the upper side of the Cloud City.
5 - BESPIN is a "hurry-up" mode where you must shoot the Cloud City. Each rotation of the ball inside the Cloud City increase points by 50k : 1st rotation => 100k, 2nd => 150k, 3rd => 200k, etc... You must spam it. If the ramp doesn't guide the ball to the Cloud City, juste hit the Force Target to lower it.

@dodonna If you practice at getting the ball to the other flipper it will help tons on ESB. Try this, trap the ball then release, when the ball gets to about half way on the flipper give a nudge. It will bounce over to other flipper, then trap on that side aim, shoot. You will get through the scenes soon enough. Hope this helps.

They are meant to be hard. It's the same for the missions on other tables. The final scene (scene 6) is considered as the wizard mode.

But downing the AT-AT in Scene 2 is crazy hard; hitting alternating ramps *five* times? (I suck at transferring the ball from one paddle to the other.) Learn the basic techniques on how to control the ball and you'll be able to complete scene 2 with ease. Watch this video!.

Bounce Passing (Dead Flipper Passing) and Nudge Passing are the key to defeating the AT-AT.

Yeh the Empire Guide is monstrous lol, the other 2 Star Wars Guides are similar as these Tables just have so much to dig into.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, I did do a Guide for that Table so it's in the que to be added to the Zen Studios Blog.

Cool. As long as they're supposed to be crazy hard, I don't feel nearly as lame for being unable to accomplish them.

Thanks for the link! I found the video helpful, but how do I "nudge pass" on an iPad? Or can I? As far as I can tell, the iPad flippers are either on or off, no in-between.

I'm not sure, since I only have the game on PS3.
