Question about kickback activation

New member here and pleased to meet all you pinball enthusiasts. Ever since I got an ipad I have been totally obsessed and my goal is to get into the top ten. I'm quite good but there are some fundamental I am ignorant about with some of these boards that the the table guides do not entirely explain in regards to kickback activation.

On many boards I have to trigger a Rollover to light up a letter and eventually spell out a word, but the first and last Rollovers lead to the drains so how do I trigger those without losing a ball or is there something else I'm missing? I notice the lights in the letters change depending which flipper is up.

I'm happy to be a new member here and any help would be appreciated.

you press the flipper button to move the letters so they are not over the oulanes

Thanks I think I understand. I need the letter to be unlit when activating the rollover. I've spent a couple thousand hours playing zen boards and never figured it out. lol.
