  • [Windows 8] Hutts Mission Bug on Boba Fett table

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post bugs on Star Wars tables; please feel free to move it elsewhere if necessary.

I was playing on the Boba Fett table, and started the "hutts" mission to steal Imperial Data. The instructions on the dot-matrix display indicates for the player to shoot the ball through the Empire loop. I have done this before, so I know that the next thing to do is to fire an accurate shot at the Stormtrooper's neck. However, the last couple of times I activated the mission and shot the loop, it did not allow me go to the dot-matrix display to take aim, instead the drone just says "Video Mode" (or at least I think that's what it said), a buzzer goes off and the dot-matrix display says "Missed". I then naturally continued to try shooting the loop multiple times, wondering why it wasn't going to the other mode, but the same thing kept happening. Even after I ran out of time, after re-lighting all the "hutts" letters, starting the same mission again and shooting the Empire loop, it would still not let me progress.

Are you holding the flipper button for too long? Sometimes, when you shoot the Empire loop and you're still holding the right flipper button down when video mode starts, the gun shoots straight away, resulting in an instant "miss".

Your problem may be completely different to mine, but that's what often happens with me.

No, I don't think it's that... there should be a brief delay after shooting the Empire loop, while Boba Fett jet-packs to the centre of the table to take aim...

I have tried again to get back to the mission, and same thing happens again. I noticed I was shooting the Empire loop with the left flipper, rather than the right flipper, but there's definitely something not right here. I'll just have to keep trying until I work out precisely what is wrong, including the use of the right flipper, so the devs have something solid to work with.

It appears you were right, Jeppo. I tried the mission again, and managed to successfully shoot the Empire loop with the right flipper, which brought up the correct dot-matrix sequence. I also missed and had another shot at it with the left flipper shooting it up the loop, but it again did not let me take aim at the Stormtrooper. I noticed that when I had the chance, the dot-matrix display instructed me to aim with the launch button, and shoot his neck with the left flipper, specifically.

So, although not a technically a bug, it's perhaps a poor choice of table mechanics by the devs. There didn't seem to be a delay as I had once thought, and consequently almost any left flipper shots into the Empire loop will fail on this mission. If there are other people who have been having the same problem as I have, the table may need to be reviewed. I would suggest one of the following changes be implemented:
        • A delay after successfully shooting the Empire loop, perhaps with the ball being kept by the table at the left-hand side, allowing the player time to let go of the left flipper
        • Switching around the two buttons; left flipper button to take aim, and launch button to fire

I haven't been able to go much above 150 million on this table, so having problems like this can be quite frustrating when on a quest to get high scores.

I'd just like to confirm that this happens to me as well on the Android platform (Nexus 7).

Using the left flipper to shoot the Empire ramp and start the video mode results in an automatic "miss" and mission fail, you can only activate the video mode via the right flipper.
