  • Delete old Zen Pinball and Marvel Pinball?

    Hi there,

I'd just like to make sure that it's OK to delete my old Zen and Marvel Pinball from my PS3, now that I've installed Zen Pinball 2.

According to the FAQ, it's up to me whether I want to or not. It looks like all the games were re-downloaded (I've got every Zen and Marvel game!), so don't I now have two of each game living in my PS3? Seems like a waste of hard drive space.

Also, the FAQ implies that if I want to keep my old scores, I need to keep the old games. But all the games in ZP2 act like I've never played them before. It doesn't look like the old games are of any use at all.

So is it OK to delete the old games, or am I overlooking a reason to keep them?

    Thanks for the help!

    Frank

That's interesting, you didn't have to re-download all your games? 'Cause I've got every Zen and Marvel game, and I had to download each one individually.

From what I've heard, ZP2 doesn't look in your hard drive to see what you have. It goes to the PS store to see what you've paid for, and then lets you re-download those titles.

Plus I think I read that Zen gave all their games a facelift. The original games won't work in ZP2, so we would have to download everything we have to play them in ZP2.

Correct on both parts. The Avenger Chronicles is preloaded in the game. All of the of others have to be downloaded again.

            Kind of a drag...

I got this last night at launch and a couple of things that are/were a bummer or hassle imo.

It took about 1/2hr to 45 minutes to re-download the ZP2 versions of all of the tables I already had. (all of them)
I understand they are 're-worked' for the enhanced platform, but there should've been a way to work the new physics code into the old tables rather than having to re-download them all.

Also, it seems like I'm starting all over with scores and trophies which really sucks! I was within a few hundred points of the Team Score 5000 trophy. I don't see any point in keeping both the original versions of ZP and Marvel, but it's a bummer to have lost all of the time, scores and trophies earned already...I'm 42yrs old so accomplishments like that don't come very easily or often.

Finally, I was only able to play a couple of tables by the time the re-downloading was complete, but didn't like the following:

It doesn't seem like the pressure sensitive feature is working with the X button to Launch the ball. Unless it's just the controller I was using, it was all or nothing when launching and nearly impossible to nab Skill Shots.

In general, the only physics difference I notice is that the ball moves faster (like the machines back legs have been raised even more) and you can hear the sound of it rolling across the playfield. Obviously, I'll have to play more but what's everyone else's take on the new gameplay?

PvZ was REALLY COOL! Though I only played 1 game so far.

Keep Marvel Pinball for a bit longer, since Fantastic Four isn't available on ZP2 yet.

Also send me a friend invite (shogun00) and you will get your Team Score trophies on MP and ZP2.

There are two different launchers now. The X button is the "auto launch", while the right analog stick is the "manual launch". The auto launch is for the beginners and they get a 50/50 chance of getting the skill shot, while the manual launch is for the skilled pinball players.

Note: If you want the manual launch (pressure sensitive) on the X button, then just remap the controls around in the options screen.

There have been a lot of changes, but most of them won't be noticeable until you play MP or ZP1 again. I was only able to play Blade last night and here's what I noticed.

1.) The graphics are much more sharper and the night mode has cool looking light reflections.
2.) The elastic physics have been tightened.
3.) The bounce back physics on plastics and metals have been greatly improved. In the past, bouncing a ball off of the corner of the ramp for example, felt like I was hitting a slingshot.
4.) The ball rolls more realistically and it's easier to control.
5.) The rule sheets have been greatly improved. Showing you a diagram of the table with arrows pointing the way.
6.) The table rules have been improved. You now get three tilt warnings and all of the extra balls (5 in all) can be earn with the same ball. In the past, you could only earn two EBs per ball.

The trophies are completely different though, no? If that's the case, then I'm keeping all unless I'm tight for space.

Correct! They are different, since they are two separate trophy sets.

the sensitive launch ball was changed to the right stick, but i think you can change it in the options, but to be honest i prefer the right analog stick is way more accurate IMO now i can do skillshots considerably more easier

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide feedback, this is all very helpful!
I was certainly not trying to be a 'hater' and meant no offense to the fine folks at Zen...just throwing out my initial opinion. Thanks again shogun00! I'll try to remember to shoot you that friend request this evening.

When you do, please let me know that that you came from the Zen Forums in the message. I'm getting too many friend requests with no idea who they are or what they want.
