You just need bumper hits to get the multiplier. Not sure how many in a row, but it's a substantial amount.

Interesting! It's just like the Tesla table then.

Jack-in-the-box reward is the only way I know of to raise the multiplier. It is listed as a jack-in-the-box reward in the table guide. I didn't give eob multiplier it's own section because I thought the jack-in-the-box random reward was a secondary method of obtaining and I hadn't found the "real" way to raise them. However, I am starting to think it is the only way to advance them.

hmmm... I hope that's not the only way. Random Reward for something so important is rather weak, imo.

Noob question - in this case what does the multiplier multiply? All score, or just jackpots, or end of ball bonus or ?

Also in pinball generally, when you build a multiplier is it generally permanent? Or does it go away after a drain....

We are talking about the End of Ball Bonus multiplier.

Go to http://www.ipdb.org. It has a good glossary of pinball terms

In short, the multiplier multiplies your end of ball (EOB) bonus. An EOB bonus is awarded when you drain a ball. You can get bonuses for doing certain things like completing missions, getting multiballs, targets or shots, etc. The cumulative score of all these bonuses is added to your total score once you drain a ball. If you look closely at the Dot Matrix Display (DMD) when you drain a ball it usually lists all the EOB bonuses you have accumulated for that ball. You can multiply this bonus by some factor by "advancing"/raising the multiplier. Raising the multiplier differs from table to table. Sometimes it is completed by lighting up rollovers in certain lanes, hitting certain targets, hitting bumpers, etc. Raising the multiplier is not permanent and usually resets after you drain the ball. Though some tables have a "hold multiplier" reward that allows you to apply your current multiplier to your next ball, but only your next ball.

Shogun and surf, thanks for the tips and for getting me off on the right foot... loving Zen! Btw, have seen some of your scores on the leaderboards - straight up sick.

Trying to con all of my friends into downloading Zen so I have someone to score-war with... Best I've done so far on any table (PvZ) is 95M.
