  • Almost mastered Epic Quest except for one thing...

Hey guys, was wondering if some of the more advanced players can offer me some advice on this. I have pretty much played through and analyzed the Epic Quest table well enough that I know how to avoid drainage of the ball in almost any situation where the ball may not hit it's target and come down fast.

Control has been one of the main aspects that has improved my score, making sure that I just don't whack the ball out but rather to aim it instead. My only problem is there is one thing I just don't know how to control. Sometimes when you hit the ball up the shield ramp, it comes back so fast that I don't know how to stop at, at this point I try to whack the ball which is moving at a fast speed up the sword ramp, if I miss, then there is a big chance that the ball hits the side of the ramp and gets drained.

Does anyone know how to control the ball when it is coming fast down the ramp. I think if I can just get that down, I would own the table.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

The shield/sword combo is on the of easiest in the game. With good muscle memory you should nail it 90% of the times.
If you don't want to risk it, you can nudge the ball up as it's coming down the flipper to cradle the ball on the right.
Another choice is to nudge it right+up as it closes the slingshot to stop the momentum of the ball and get a cradle on the left.

From my experience, just lift the left flipper and the ball will hit the tip of it and bounce nicely into the right flipper.

The real question is how fast is the ball going? If it's going to fast, then you won't be able to cradle/capture the ball with the right flipper. In these cases, I just do a nudge pass and send it back to the left flipper. Otherwise, you should be able to capture the ball with the right flipper.

I can only get about 25% of the balls to rest on the right flipper after coming down the sword ramp. It's just the way the table plays now, after nearly total success on ZP1 doing the same thing. Easy skill shots and success with the top left flipper too. God, I hate change

I don't find the nudge methods of slowing down the balls workable, because I need the nudges for death saves.

My only answer has been to improve on hitting the ball on the move when it comes down the sword ramp. If you miss you're still going to hit something useful like the smash box or the left orbit. It's just the way the table plays now and it remains my favourite. I don't find it a very important shot in any case - it's the right pot for the battles, always attempted with Quest Again active

I don't see how that makes much sense.
The game gives you 3 nugdes before a tilt, which reset in approximately 20-30 seconds. You only need one to controll the ball (and choose in which flipper you want to cradle the ball), plus one nudge to get a successful bangback (two if the first goes south and doesn't drain immediately).
There is no reason to not use nudges to control the ball if you can't get a complete stop by holding up the flipper.

It must just be me then. When riding the Sword and Shield ramps I'd use up the tilt really quickly if I needed to use the tilt on most of the times the ball comes down the Sword ramp. I just think the shot can just be hit on the volley with reasonable accuracy, but I'm only scraping in to the top 100 on this board.

The leaderboards on this table are irrelevant until you hit level 99.
90% of the score on Epic Quest comes from grinding the rat over and over and boosting the score with the princess multiball. The fact that jackpots grow exponentially with your level makes the scoring on this table extremely unbalanced. It's the one reason why I don't like it that much.

If there's an exploit just do it, walk away and say there'ss a scoring problem with the table?

you can do unlimited nudges if you do it right (softly). You can also do a "flip trap" If timed right, it will stop the ball instead of letting it roll up over the flipper. Instead of holding the flipper up, you activate it to meet the ball as the flipper reaches maximum height....sorta 'hitting' the ball a little to deaden it.
