  • Thoughts on Online Multiplayer?

Hi guys. What are you thoughts on people hosting games on PSN, but won't allow you to play on their table? When I try to join, certain people just kick me out right away, or leave the table and won't play. They WILL play other people, and pad their online scores. It makes me a little nuts knowing their online scores are higher than mine, but they refuse to allow me to get points on their table while they host. This happened a lot on ZP1. My wife was actually trash talking the guy yesterday (PS eye camera)!! Sometimes when they host, they won't press X to say they are ready to play until they see who joins their table first... Also I noticed afterwards, no one else joined their table for at least 15-20 mins because you can see how many players are playing while you are in the lounge, so they would rather sit there and not play at all, than play me and try to get better and have a challenge.
    /end rant !

I hear where you're coming from...but in the end, I guess its the 'host's' prerogative. I don't recall ever kicking anyone, but have cringed when I realize Caper26 is in the mix...'ain't getting muchon this round'

I rarely play online and when I do, it's always in a private room with those on my friends list. I refuse to play with complete strangers. Too much drama!

I'll play anyone while online. But I have to echo Trollwart's sentiment: when certain players are in the room (like, say, a Caper or Shogun, for example) I know that I'm just along for the ride, heh heh. But at least the ride'll be a fun one and only a little painful.

I rarely play online. Most of the folks on my friend list don't either.

Maybe I'll have to start hosting games and anyone can play! You can all show me how much you rock at pinball

That will only work if we can get Hot Seat mode online. Otherwise all you are going to see is a small horse race progress bar moving really fast.

I don't play much multiplayer but I've had similar problems on games like Street Fighter IV. People keep booting me from the lobby in hopes of finding an easier opponent. I promise you I will never do that. I will take my ass whooping, learn from it, add it to my game, and move on. You can add me if you want to play ZP2 together sometime.

Same here, but I have been guilty of accidentally pressing the retard button (the oddly placed quit button) a few times.

Yeah thats always a prob with online vs. games. Wussies back out when their getting their asses handed to them. Thats why i dont bother with the sports games online anymore. And as to multiplayer pinball, ive yet to try cuz i wanna get a little better before someone hands me mine! Lol...i should probly try it before i ask, but what, its not like taking turns? Do you see the other player(s) tables as they are playing? Id actualy play with the big boys so i can see how they do it. And i dont back out during versus...no matter how bad im losing!

There's just no incentive for me to play multiplayer. They really should have had some trophies associated with it to make it worth while and to improve the community aspect of the game. The real driver for me right now is beating tables, getting the trophies, and improving my pro score (in that order).

I never play online because I just hate the online multiplayer. If there were hotseat online multi, I'd be online constantly.

(And most, if not all, of the people I've dragged into Zen pinball games would still be playing. I buy tables for my friends to get them started, everyone is all happy for a day or two, and then the minute they realize there's no real multiplayer, they stop and never play again. I've been through this at least half a dozen times in the last year.)

I haven't played the online multiplayer on ZP2 yet, but I have on Marvel Pinball.

I find that to do well in Multiplayer is to play slightly differently than single player. Because when you are playing on single player, you (obviously) try to aim to get the highest score you can, and that's usually by doing the tried and trusted method of steady accumulation, activating the kickbacks and ball save as soon as possible and trying to minimise risk as much as you can. The points will come in time.

In Online Multiplayer you aim to accumulate points as quickly as you can. This usually entails making more risky shots, ignoring kickbacks, and activating the modes that give out the most points. Draining the ball is not as punishing in Online Multiplayer, even if the penalty is set high, as the end-of-ball bonus is awarded after the penalty and that can be fairly sizeable on its own depending on the table.

Most people won't understand me when I say this, but I think of single player as a Test and Online Multiplayer as a Twenty20.
