  • Request: Please consider adding a fixed, wide-angle camera view at a medium eye level

I've been thinking about posting this since ZP2 was released, not sure why I waited so long.. but anyway here it is:

I think it would be very helpful to have another wide-angle fixed camera view at more of a medium eye level. That would be about halfway between the angles in camera view 1W (low) and 2 (very high), maybe slightly closer to 1W than to 2. It seems like there is quite a gap between those two angles that a middle option would fill nicely.

I personally would prefer playing with a fixed view camera that was more like the angle that an average person standing behind a real life machine creates. I feel like 1W is just a little lower than I'm comfortable with (along with its non-wide-angle counterparts 1/4/7), like its the view of someone hunched down behind the flippers at a real table - just peeking over the edge. Then there's view 2 that does a great job of showing the whole table but feels a little too "top-down" for me to be comfortable with.

I think that this medium angle I'm asking for would be pretty close to what camera view 5 or 6 currently have, except not zoomed in of course. The problem I have with those views is that I don't like having the camera pan away from the flippers - because I always end up losing balls as the flippers just come into view as the ball goes by (I have a hard time lining up my slap-saves when the flippers aren't in view the whole time). However I can definitely see how other people could like those views a lot though, since they are a nice viewing angle when stationary.

The great thing about adding another fixed view is that it could potentially benefit a lot of people that use the smart-view camera angles because they all need a fixed view during multiball. I'm sure there's some people out there using view 5 or 6 that would like a similar angle to be available for multiball.

You might ask how I know I personally would like this new angle better? Well, its because that view is something that's available in one of your competitor's games and I like it quite a bit (although it is more than offset by other things I don't like in their games as much as yours of course). So that's another benefit - one more thing to make your game superior to the competition's.

So tell me what you think - am I just being too picky or does this sound like something that would be beneficial to a lot of players?

I like the positioning of the view you described. In fact I would like to see another portrait view added to the Vita as well.

But why do you say fixed? I believe you can manually lock the view in any camera mode already can't you.
Personally the more movement around the table the happier I am.

It doesn't? Ha I must have been confused with TPA then, I thought Zen did this as well.

Yes that absolutely should be implemented. It would be far, far better to have 7 completely different camera angles and a lock button than the way it is now.

That's not a bad idea either but TPA's views are a little btter suited for the lock option since they all start from a full table view. It would be interesting to see how the lock option would work with Zen's views 4, 5, and 6. I still would love to see some more full table view options in Zen 2 though.

+1 here, I concur with your entire post ER777 I have the exact same issues, especially when I lose sight of my flippers. I usually use view 2 but sometimes want a bit of a closer look but feel like a little kid standing on my tippy toes peeking over the edge of the table with the close up fixed views, lol. Would be nice to bring v2 a touch closer. Barbie, please suggest to the devs for us? Thanks!

I'm glad to see that at least a few people feel the same way. Hopefully its something Zen at least considers, it feels like one of the very few gaps in an otherwise wide array of viewing options. I've heard several people requesting that they bring back the old Zen 1 / Marvel view 6 as well - so obviously there are plenty of people who like fixed views for playing pinball.

I think the best solution would be if they could add a way to manual adjust your view. For me different tables require different views to allow me to see what I think is important on a given table and on some tables there's never a view that feels just right. If I could adjust the camera angle and distance before playing that'd fix the problem plus it would allow everyone to find they're own sweet spot.

That would definitely be the best option, though not sure how feasable it is on zens end. Thought I read a post by solitude about lots of diff changes in the next new game ? maybe they're gonna put all these new tables that are coming out in a new zen pin or something.....

I play on Xbox Fx 2 so don't know what the equivalent view numbers are. I use predominantly view 5 (link to video where I use it) or view 7 (for tables where it seems to flow better) (link to video where I use it) as depending on the table they are the views that give me the best chance to focus on the flippers and features essential to gameplay on that table. I really like view 5 when I play as it feels like it focusses you onto the flippers as the ball is coming down with the camera zooming in. On most tables I don't really care what is going on right at the top of the table as most of the action happens in the middle part of the table so I don't mind if the table is zoomed out at that point. It is just top flipper tables that sometimes give me problems with view 5 and then I use 7. For multiplier I use 1W (used in this video) as it again give me the best view of the flippers.

I really don't know how people can play with views that move around a lot or where you lose sight of the flippers for long periods. I don't really like any of the fixed views because even on a big screen it still feel like I am not close enough to the flippers.

It appears that the view numbering in FX2 lines up with Marvel Pinball for PS3, but Zen2 is numbered differently. Your view 5 = Zen2 view 4 and your view 7 = Zen2 view 5. 1W is pretty much the same in all.

I use pretty much the same views as you and for the same reasons, but I feel like 1W is a little lower than I like. I'd rather use a fixed view all the time though if the right angle was available..

What I'm suggesting they add is a view somewhat like 1W but from a little higher of a viewing angle, a little higher up above the flippers rather than low behind them.

Excellent idea indeed. I can't see there being any issue with the game engine not handling it, as during the course of play we are pretty much given all the required views as the camera scolls and zooms anyway; all it needs is a lock.

I always wondered why Zen doesn't have the Mini ball cam view that Pinball FX has in the corner too (or at least as I have seen on Youtube).
