Yes. That also works.
I can do either with ZP2 running in the background and it will work afterwards.
What I can't do is play the game correctly connected without doing one of these things.
It is enough to do either workaround and you only have to do it once per play session.
No other game/app/or other part of the PS 4 system is showing any form for network issues.

Try either logging out and logging back in without leaving the game. If that doesn't work, run a network test on your PS4 and that should help. Let me know if those don't work.

Every time I start the game after starting the PS4 I get one of two messages when looking for scores - either that I have to be signed in or that I need an active internet connection.

Yeah, still happening to me. But instead of logging out and logging back into PSN, I go to network settings and test network. Then return to game that was paused and scoreboard works. Hopes this makes sense.

Just tested too - still happening even after a full restart of the PS4

I'll have to test. I thought I'd been thru a complete power cycle at least once but I may just have left it in standby (I tend to leave it in standby).

Thing is - the PS4 is online - I can see (and talk) to friends, sync trophies etc etc.
If I leave ZP2 running in the background and log out and back in to PSN then it can detect that I'm online. But I have to do the PS button/logout/login/return to game dance every time.
Only ZP2 of all the games I so far have that have this issue.
