  • Why did local multiplayer get totally hosed??

First off, I love Zen/Pinball FX. Me and my wife have been playing for a long time even though I never post here. Even though we have a shiny, modern PS4 that can play AAA graphical wonders, we play this and your competitor 80% of the time we're on. We love us some pinball. So needless to say I was excited to see an update for Zen.

However, I have to say after playing for a while yesterday I feel like I need to go back to Zen to get my local multiplayer fix. Here's my issues:

    1. What happened to the local leaderboards? Even if it was fake initials to start with, you could play with a friend or group locally and have a local high score top 10 list to enter your initials on. Unless I'm missing it this is totally gone. Not only that, your scores in local hotseat don't seem to register at all on any of the other online leaderboards. So this means there is really nothing to shoot for in local hotseat other than winning on a game by game basis.

    2. Why in the world was the little pause screen in between player turns removed? This is particularly troublesome in games like Avengers where you have to choose something before you launch your ball. When we played it today, the time to select your Avenger was pretty much up by the time the other player got the controller. But that aside, myself and others probably like to play this as a "party" game. Now, there is no chance to go to the bathroom, get a drink, etc... because your turn might come up and if you aren't there and the table requires a choice you are hosed. Yes, I know it can be paused manually..but in the heat of things I think it would be easier to just keep the screen where you have to press X to start your turn or at least include it as an option.

Furthermore, it has caused some confusion when you might have gotten an extra ball and not realized it in the heat of the action. Even playing today I passed the controller to my wife when I thought my turn was over only to find myself scrambling to get the controller back as she launched my extra ball onto the table. We're not hardcore and sometimes don't realize when we've gotten an extra ball. This never happened before because the pause screen was a fail safe against this. You just kept the controller until it said it was the next players turn.

As an aside, why can't we at least have the option of using multiple controllers in local non-splitscreen multi player as well?

    3. Local split screen mode totally removed? What? Why?

Some things that weren't in Zen 2 that I hoped would make it to this version that haven't:

    1. When I heard tournaments were coming I thought you'd be able to select multiple tables and play through them locally as a series or something like that. Seems more like it's an online focused thing only.

    2. Why can't this game, or Pinball Arcade for that matter, add a simple "random" option when choosing a table?

So basically for me at this point I'm probably going to just go back to Zen which isn't a big deal as FX3 didn't cost me anything. I guess the next question to find out about is whether all the new tables that will be releasing, including the Universal pack, will be available for FX3 only. If so it makes that decision a little more troublesome.

Best case scenario is some of these things get patched back in. I love this pinball game and am down with adding to it and making it appeal to a broader audience, but the things that have been removed seem to be simple things to keep in the game for us old timers.

    Thanks for listening.

The local leader boards are there, but quite hidden. When you start up a table give it 20-30 seconds, and the dot matrix screen in the top corner should cycle through your local high scores.

Pause is noticeable, but there is a pause button, just have to knowingly use it more now. Sucks but is what it is. and to be fair, passing before I should have happened on fx2 as well. I do Dislike this change though as well.

I like your idea for the tourneys, , it is more like what I envisioned as well. And I think they plan on growing these features over time, so im sure they love this feedback.

I agree with your random idea the most. As a massive hotseat player, this is essential to fair play. No one gets table advantage on purpose. I never understood why no random either. I have to manually random and it gets tiresome.

For me in the Steam version, if you look at the leaderboards page for a table keep pressing ctrl and it will eventually cycle to local high scores. You should also be prompted to enter your name if you get a local high score. Personally I like the DMD initials better but its better than nothing.

Ye there is not much reason to jump to pinball fx 3.
Zen pinball 2 is the superior version.

Local highscore- 3D - splitscreen- football tables- street fighter-ninja gaiden-south park

        And ofcourse the operator settings

That's awesome! missed this at first. Very Helpful.

Another reason I can see for sticking with FX2 is how gaudy and oversaturated the remade (especially earlier) tables are now. I used to love the Hulk table but now it's an eyesore. Maybe I'm imagining it but I also get the sense that the space, the sense of the length of the table, has been contracted rather awkwardly in some of the tables. All in all, the over-bright, cartoony tables, coupled with the fact that the game is now unplayable on xbox, has made a disappointing first impression.

So does anyone playing PS4 have a way to get to local leaderboards? It's never even asked me for my initials after a game so I'm assuming it's not there.

If you select single player from main menu, then the table you want, then select single player and hotseat, and highlight the category (in this case classic single player) and I used my right joy to select local high score, it was one of the last options. This was on xbox but I am sure it transfers over to all games.

                Here is the example:
View Xbox clips, Twitch clips and streams, gifs, screenshots, and achievements for any gamer. Gamer DVR - View, download, and manage your content such as Xbox One game clips. Create playlists, organize albums, take snapshots, filter and sort, add timestamps, create gifs, and many more features!

I really want the local splitscreen back, and to top it off, make it availible online with just scores, no need to see the other person playing. That would be so cool to really compete in real time.

I checked on the Steam game and I can see what you're talking about.

The PS4 has no equivalent and doesn't even ask for your name when you end a game with a nice big score.

It is confusing that you can enter your name by pressing A (your Steam name)...I also did that in hot seat but nothing was saved.

This. I looked everywhere for such a leaderboard and have never even been asked to put in my initials. Hopefully if it's on other systems it can be worked into the PS4 version.

Even better..just let us log in with multiple user accounts so we can play the mode and still make the worldwide leaderboards.

                          disappointed customer

                          Hello Zen Studios,

We play at the PS4 and were always happy with Zen and alle there releases. Therefore we were hyped for the new FX3 release, only to get realy disappointed.

Me and my family have playes uncountable hours and had a lot of fun with zen pinball 2. But for us (and some of my friends) are FX3 just useless without a local leaderboard, without that split screen and without the operator menu. I just can not imagine why you didnt add these features? I mean, the local multiplayer is for a lot of people important. At this stage, we switch back to zen pinball 2 and wont buy any new tables since the new three tables are not avaible for the old zen pinball 2.

We would realy very very happy if you add in the future:

                          1. local multiplayer highscore (just like in zen pinball 2)
                          2. local split screen (just like in zen pinball 2)
                          3. operator menu (just like in zen pinball 2)

Then we would have a reason to swtich to the new FX3.

                          Greetings

                            Totally agree

                            Hello Zen Studios,

I totally agree to previous post.

Pinball FX3 on PS4 is no fun without local highscores and the ability to enter initials. I did test the Steam PC Version, and there are local highscores ant the possibility to enter initials. I do not understand why it is on Steam but not on PS4. Currenty the game is no fun so I did switch back to Zen Pinball 2.

But staying in Pinball 2 is no real option as it will not get future new tables.

Please provide local highscores and entering initials.

Competing with the family and being proud to be able to enter initials is the main motivation I see for playing pinball games.

Wanted to add that the update released today for the windows 10 and Xbox One versions, fix local high scores to work in single player and in hotseat. They do work in steam as well. I don't have a PS4 to check, but it seems like its an intended feature that wasn't rolled out properly and is getting addressed. Once the update is out for ps4 (if not already) I would test it out again!
