  • First impressions on Universal Pack

    Great Pack.

You'll probably hear it many times, but the fact that there is no theme music for each of these is disheartening. If you're going to get movie licenses, get the whole thing including the theme. I've played each table once and I felt that I would love to hear each of the themes. Especially Back to the Future.

E.T Table is nice. Likely the easiest of the pack IMO. I played the table once and I think I played about 45 minutes on my first try. Although I don't know the whole nuances of the table the table is pretty much straight forward and easily accessible to many.

JAWS - I actually found this challenging (And that's not a bad thing). Some of the lanes need some accurate shots and that's great. Starting the modes is a bit confusing but I think it's pretty straightforward by shooting the lanes to start the modes. Nice open table.

Back To The Future - Definitely my favorite of the pack. there's so much to keep track of. Love the Out of Time Multiball effects. The game lived up to my expectations minus the movie themes. My first run I had to years to finish to likely get to the wizard mode. 1885 and 1995 part 1. I like how you implimineted each of the years pretty well. And the fact that table does change depending on the year. Very impressed.

Great pack now looking forward to two original tables coming soon. Thanks Zen for also tweaking all of the older tables with active slings and bumpers. Although I haven't had a chance to play all of the tables but playing the beta and seeing that all the tables were being tweaked made me anxious to play Zen pinball again. Now if I only had time. Been so busy.

Back to the future was the only one so far Ive really gotten into and actually like, but there is one year, not sure which, where the music is reminiscent of an ice cream truck and repeats over and over and over and over.

I love the new tables, but agree.....jaws without Jaws theme is sad. I'm sure there's a good reason but there you go.

That is disappointing to hear, the music from those films is so iconic that I'd worry that the tables will feel a bit hollow without it.

Zen has already replied regarding the OST & VO

After reading all of the griping re voices on BttF and starting up my first game, I really don't see, err hear, what the big deal is. I thought the voices were fine. <shrugs>

Just a small request - a detail- about Jaws : at the end of the game, there is 5-6 seconds between "game over" and show score. It's a bit long, compared with others tables.

About music, personnaly i don't play with music

Yes, I read that yet still, The lack of the music theme is disappointing. The immersion just isn't there. Especially if you enjoyed the music by John Williams and Alan Silvestri's scores. They are top notch and should be as accessible as the SW theme. The voices for BTTF isn't bad. Marty's is Pretty good. Doc Not so much but to here the lines from the movie is still fun as heck.

I understand that everyone wants their cut and licensing is necessary to the minutia, but how can a company give a license for beloved movies and then not insist that the original score be incorporated? Games like this make you remember how great these movies were and make you want to see them again with your children who will later go see the latest reboot. I couldnt even begin to imagine playing any of SW tables without the actual music. That being said, the voices are not that far off in the BTTF table, and its hella fun.

The left outlane of JAWS is brutal. It's a ball magnet and the left kickback mechanic is very hard to light. I think you light it with combo shots but this table is very difficult to combo shots on. The right outlane has less of a drain problem but lighting the kickback by hitting the right vari-target has this annoying habit of feeding the right outlane. So you end up activating the right kickback only to have it immediately wasted when the ball drains into the outlane after it hits the target. The missions on JAWS are really fun but that left outlane tends to kill all my momentum.

On a side note, the table guide for Jaws hints at a secret skillshot. I have gotten the regular and double skillshot. Has anyone found the secret skillshot?

Edit: I'm playing this on my iPad so the physics might be very different on console/pc.

If you cant use the real OSTs of some tables maybe its better to not make the table at all.

Having said that, I like the design of all three of the tables.
Jaws is my favorite of the pack.

Yeah I think I found it if I'm remembering correctly...

But I don't want to spoil it!

Jaws is awesome! Great design, atmosphere, excitement! ET is ok...BTTF is not my cup of tea. I love the movies but starting a game being trapped in missions is boring. Played with a friend and we were in missions 90% of the time. The 1885 mission is annoying with dozens of Native Americans and if you can't find a way past them, the mission goes on and on and you are "trapped" in it.

Jaws made me feel seasick during the mode that makes the screen go left to right. It's a great idea but I really had dizzyness afterwards.
