  • 'Next score to beat': Why no constant in-game scoring messages?

Really enjoying FX3 but there's one major change (poss. minor to others!) which is hampering my playing experience.

Zen Pinball 2 would always bring up an in-game message below the dot-matrix when you were close to beating a friend's score, or your previous highscore, showing the reducing amount to achieve that goal. When you achieved it, it would bring up the next score to beat and so on. This was one of my favorite parts of the game.

FX3 meanwhile only seems do this intermittently, so I'm often just playing, rather than playing to beat the next score.

Is there a particular reason for the change? Fiddling with the options doesn't seem to help. Might it be amended in a future update?

    Thanks!

Yeah, I'd be happy to see a small rectangle box that has what the next score to beat is, and maybe what place it is. As long as they can keep it as out of the way as possible. It can be a tad annoying to have to pause the game to see the next score.

BUT, I really want it to be it's own setting. Just because I've turned the pop-ups off. Wanna keep them off, but also have the score pop-up.

I'm really missing this feature too. So satisfying having the friend's score remaining being reduced in that box until you surpassed it and then went to the next friend's score. It was a big part of the experience of playing ZP2.

I also miss having the target friend/leaderboard score to beat bar underneath the dot matrix.

I don't think this would be too hard for them to add into the game, just make the challenge bar thinner.

There should be an option to choose what pop ups, if at all, you want to see.

I miss it too - it is a good thing to see how far a friend is away, and motivates or frustrates me to keep on playing and beat his score.
Please bring it back as an option

One of the things I loved. It seems to happen sometimes now, but still seems not the same.

I want to chime in and say that I also really miss this feature. Please return it to the game.

This is what made the game a cut above other pinball games.

This feature, on the consoles especially, tying friends in, made Zen "beyond just pinball". The XBOX 360 and WiiU versions cued you in on your own, and all friends' weekly, as well as all time, scores. The Steam version did not clue you in on Friends' weeklies, just the all times scores. This is one reason the console experience was even better than Steam for FX2.

So yeah I kind of miss that too, man.

i dont even understand why it was messed with. It was perfect, and felt like retro pinball. It's why were all here, because we love the way it used to be with a new flare, but keep it like it was and dont add a bunch of magic powers and rewinds and slow motions. I doubt many even care about these things. Just keep upgrading the visuals and make it faster. We really just want the most realistic looking virtual pinball with our franchise favorites that could never be reproduced in the real world with things moving everywhere, but we want it to look like pinball and being able to put in our initials at the end is crucial to that. Keep doing what your doing, but quit making up new things. You guys were already the best, dont ruin it by being creative. Just make what you already had better and keep putting out new tables. I'll buy anything you put out.

I disagree with just about everything in this post. I like the new modes and powers. I like having options. As long as the classic mode is there for the pure gameplay then I think the more options, the better. Please keep being creative. It's much appreciated.

Except for a few small things like the score tracking feature mentioned in this thread and the initials entry now being the PS keyboard instead of the DMD, I think the game is improving.

Yes agreed, I want the old scoring reminders, and insist on the classic play options, but in the past, have touted the other new stuff in fx3
