  • Reconsidering customisable table views after Williams table release

Yesterday I posted about how I am struggling to get a view for me that works with the new Williams tables as their proportions are different than most Zen tables.

It reminded me of a thread a long time ago where Zen enquired about people's view preferences and there were many good suggestions that resulted in some new single and multi-ball table views (View 6 on Xbox 360 that I remembered being awesome on Ms. Splosion Man). I also made some suggestions on this thread including the following:

    - If it is at all possible cameras that can be adjusted manually would be the best - position, height, amount of zoom and speed of camera scrolling action.
    - It would be great if we can select only the views we want e.g. in Forza 3 (I think) you can change the settings so that it only scroll through the few views you want when you change view. If that is possible I would sometimes quickly change view between say 5 for normal play and 2 (when I need to see the bumper lanes or have to get an important cross table shot e.g. torch ramp with manual invisible flipper mode.

and then also on another thread that included the following:

    - zoom: how close/far from the playing field.
    - angle: from what perspective you are virtually looking at the playing field.
    - transition / pivot point: How far up the table do you want the table to start scrolling or tilting up. e.g. I use view 5 or 7 on Xbox but depending on the table, I would make the transition point higher / later so that the table isn't on the move when the ball reach the cross flippers.
    - transition / pivot speed: How quickly it transition / pivot e.g. on a shorter / faster table I would like the transition to be quick while on a longer or slower table I would like the transition to be slower.

Basically, I would like the table to be able to mimic / approximate the movement of my eyes with a minimum of movement when I'm aiming and making my shots. This differs from table to table so the existing views are always a compromise. I would love to be able to play around with the camera on each table until I find a compromise that works best for me.

Yes! I hadn’t played PBFX3 in quite some time, as I preferred playing real tables on TPA. And now, having come back for Zen’s take on the Bally/Williams tables, I’m finding their cabinet mode lacking when compared to TPA using either noex’s free camera mod or the arcooda cabinet mode(which I’m currently using). Please, Zen, update your cabinet mode! I want a stationary camera with a GOOD angle. Your physics are fantastic now! Please just fix the cabinet mode! Also, including backglasses for your real table recreations would be great, though adding them is simple enough.

The lack of camera / view customization in cabinet mode is the basically the one and only thing holding the game back for me, just mentioned it again in the digitalpinball fan forum thread discussing the cabinet features they'd most like to see.
