Old Samsung syncmaster 2693hm monitor is great for pinball (it can rotate 90°)

Hey,

I use a very old computer monitor at home for my day to day pc usage. It's the samsung syncmaster 2693hm (25.5 inch).

This monitor can rotate 90 degrees so i decided to try this out with the Pinball FX 3 (windows store version) while choosing portrait mode in my windows 10 display settings. I must say this is great for playing the tables on pinball fx 3 and seems to work fine. I might keep playing pinball FX 3 like this as it's easy to switch into this before playing. I tried recording and playing at the same time but that did not work out so well

I'm even thinking now to buy some arcade push buttons and some wooden planks so i can create a small box to control it. Too bad the uwp (windows store) version of the game does not support cabinet mode and i can not import the games to steam (i'm not goana rebuy everything again)

That is controlled by your Windows settings. If you rotate the monitor in Windows before starting the game, it will put it in portrait mode automatically (you may have to change the in-game setting back).

They were nice enough to add the in-game option in a patch for people that only rotate the monitor while playing this game (and for pinball cabinets that can't rotate the monitor in Windows because other pinball programs don't support it)

Is that option you are talking about (ingame setting) in the steam version or also in the windows version? I can't remember if i saw such option. I think i read somewhere cabinet mode is only possible in steam version. i'm using the windows store version but also not sure if the option you talk about is related to cabinet mode. I'll have to check when i get home to see if i can find such option in windows store version. It could be if its not present it just looks at the windows setting or it's only available in the steam version. Well post update if i can find it in the uwp version of the game

I just looked up the information.

UWP version (windows 10 store) version has no cabinet mode and the option to choose portrait mode is part of cabinet mode options so the only way to get portrait mode on the UWP version is to set windows into portrait mode before starting the UWP version of the game (as i'm doing).

The Cabinet Mode (a.k.a. Vertical Screen or Portrait Mode) option is only available for the Steam version.

However, you can achieve the same result with the Xbox One version by playing it on your PC (via Microsoft Store app) and using the iRotate freeware : Ctrl - Alt - Left/Right Arrow lets you do it on the fly which is even more convenient than the Steam in-game feature forcing you to go inside the options menu.

If you have money (260 €) you can buy on-line an Ergotron 45-384-026 : this professional device will make any screen rotate.

For example it can lift a 43" such as the Philips bdm4350uc (500 €) or even (if you need HDR and FreeSync) the Momentum (800 €).

I'm not currently at home but I can show you a picture later.

hey vincent, it's also possible on win 10 store version if you change your display settings in windows 10 to portrait the windows 10 store version when started will start in portrait mode. You just don't have a setting ingame to control it but it's possible (that's how i made my video using the windows 10 store UWP version).

I also have the steam version but with far less tables.

I believe this is what I said But Hotkeys are more convenient than having to mess with Win10 settings (which can be a real pain). Some GPU softs can do it, otherwise iRotate will do the job.

Ok thanks, i'll check out irotate when i get home. It's indeed handier to have shortcut keys. Ctrl+alt+ arrow keys worked with certain video card (drivers) but not on my pc. and can't say i see anything related to shortcut keys about it in nvidia panel. Thanks
