  • Nudging is terrible on ios

I'm don't think the accelerometers on the ipad (1st gen) are good enough for a consistent nudge. I mostly use an upward nudge for nudge passing between flippers or a bang back but also occassionally a lateral nudge to redirect an outlane drain. I have adjusted the sensitivity but if it is too low it won't nudge at all and i will center drain during a nudge pass. If i set it too high, i always get tilt warnings and tilts. The main problem is consistency. Being able to get a consistent gentle nudge is really impotant for pinball contol and a more advanced moves for high scores. As it stands now, nudging just sucks.

I forgot to mention that I love the tables. Zen makes great games. I only bitch because I love the game and want it to be the best!

Same problem here with an ipad 2. Very risky to use the nudge as a ball control, consistancy is not good enough

Perhaps a multitouch swipe would be better on touch screen devices.
I'm also having a hard time nudging with any precision.

Whisper, that's a really good idea. A two finger swipe would probably work well, with the ability to change between the swipe or physical movement in the settings.

Sometimes after a strong nudge movement my screen rotates even with the rotation locked, this is very frustrating. I use to nudge to make pinball tranfers and this ruins it. Hope you fix it in the future.
Besides this, loving the game. Plz release new tables more often! Wanna buy all!

no no no. two fingers would be terrible. on an ipad you play with your thumbs, your fingers are behind the pad and even if you got one hand out to nudge in time, you no longer have control of the pad with the other hand if you need to that hand's flipper.

it should just be single quick swipe, that way you can do it with your thumb. tap for flipper, swipe for nudge. you never nudge in the launcher (though you can, a good way to practice it at the moment. so i should say you never NEED to), so no real conflict there.

                Hehe. how about face recognition?
                Smile, kissies, derpface etc.
or maybe even voice control. NUDGE! NUDGE!

Remember that there are three types of nudges. Left, right, forward (normal)

I agree with evolve or die, a single finger swipe that can be performed with a thumb would probably be the best solution for nudging on a touch screen device. Though I am not sure if there is difficulty in recognizing between a tap or a swipe. The last thing you want is to nudge when you mean to use your flipper.

Nudging's pretty bad on the PS Vita as well. Sometimes when I try to nudge the ball away from falling in to one of the outlanes I'm able to have my way with it; other times nothing happens and the ball ends up falling in. So yeah, the inconsistency can be frustrating, I agree. But hopefully this is something that will be tweaked for both platforms (the iPad and PS Vita) now that we've both got our messages across.

I've seen pinball games on iOS pull off nudges realistically, accounting for force and angle of the nudge, I don't see why Zen Pinball has trouble recognizing 3 directions. Personally, I'd like to see MFi Controller support since PCs can use Xbox controllers, and consoles only have controller input. A dpad would pull off the nudges more reliably.
