Mac in-app purchase attempts not going through

I've been purchasing tables on my phone for a while and everything has been going smoothly, but recently I wanted to purchase a table on my mac (using a $20 iTunes credit card, same way I purchased phone tables). However when I click purchase while in the game it takes me to a sign in window, then asks if I want to buy, then opens another sign in window and once I sign in there it opens the App store but does nothing. When I go back to the game it says there was an unknown error. The transaction never even went through and it doesn't say I purchased anything.

My question is is it possible to purchase the tables for mac OS outside of the game using apple store credit?

I don't think there is a way to do it outside the game (though I don't have a Mac in front of me to test it right now). Does it give any additional info besides "unknown error" or is that all the error message says?

All it says is "Unable to purchase the table: Unknown Error"

With some more thought though, it may be more of a mac problem than a game problem, because it seems to fail as it opens the app store (after I type in my password it opens the app store home screen, but does nothing else happens). I don't know what it should be opening but I wouldn't think that it should just open the app store home menu. When I open the game back up (which it automatically minimizes when signing in because the game is full-screen), that's when the error in the game comes up. If I go back to the game before that final login the game says "Please wait." The odd thing about it is though that I can make purchases through the app store directly just fine so I can't see a reason why purchasing from the game should be any different, and it's my understanding that in-app purchases can't be purchased directly through the app store, only in game.

Thanks for the extra details! Try logging out of the store, restart, then try the process over again. Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll have the team help us out here

So I tried logging out of the app store but that option was grayed out so I couldn't. I saw that was linked to permissions but under the preferences the app store tab is grayed out as well so I can't change it. I'm only using a standard account without admin rights, and I don't know the admin password for this mac. This may be what is preventing the purchase from going through, however I can still purchase and download other apps from the store without a problem.

I did restart it and can confirm that didn't help any. Tomorrow I'll visit our IT guy to see if he can get me access to the grayed out options to see if that fixes the problem but any other possible solutions would be appreciated as well.

Edit: Well, I couldn't reach IT today so I'll have to wait until next week but I'll update when I can.

Finally got in touch with IT and he helped make me the admin for my mac. Unfortunately, I still can't get the app store functionality that I need to get to the billing section. How to get to that I have no idea, there are still grayed out sections that I can't seem to click even with admin rights. I did end up installing steam to see if I could access pinball through that but the steam version of pinball doesn't look like it's compatible with mac.

I made an in app purchase on 22/10/2016 for "STAR WARS Might Of The First Order" via my apple acc using my credit card and for some reason has not downloaded the table its still showing up grey with "BUY" tag on it.
