Default Marvel Table: Iron Man Table Guide

First off, let me say this is my first attempt at a table guide. I will really appreciate anyone adding any information or tips, which I will edit into the guide and give credit. Much of this information was gathered from various sources and message board posts. I do NOT profess to be an expert at this table or even come close, just thought I would put this together for everyone.

    Ironman Table Guide

    Table Layout

    Rollovers (3)
Located above the bumpers, completing the 3 rollover targets advances the multiplier, and once advanced to 10x award the extra ball. Also used for Skillshot. One rollover will be light as you shoot, hitting the lit Rollover will reward 50,000 Points.

    Bumpers (3)
Located just below the Rollovers. The March 2011 Patch added much more "Bounce" to these bumpers.

    S.H.I.E.L.D. Mini-playfield (1)
Accessed by triggering S.H.I.E..L.D. Target Practice.

    Ramps (4)
    Stock Market
    Stark Tower
Science Award (Normally hit from the upper flipper)
    Party

    SAVE Targets (4)
Four Small targets located next to the ramps.

    Orbits (2)
Both orbits are marked with the S.H.I.E.L.D. Symbols.

    Mission Hole (1)
Used to Start Mandarin and Whiplash Missions. Also used to complete various Missions.

    Mission Hole Targets (3)
Usually block the mission hole, sometimes used during missions.

    S.H.I.E.L.D. Multi-Ball Lock (1)
Used to lock balls (3 needed) to start S.H.I.E.L.D. Multiball

    S.H.I.E.L.D. Multi-Ball Targets (2)
Targets the block the Multi-Ball Lock

    UNI BEAM Targets (7)
Located in front of Whiplash and Mandarin. Used for End of Ball Bonus

    Outlanes (2)

The two “T” lanes used for lighting “Thrust”

    Inlanes (4)
    H R U S lanes for lighting “Thrust”

    Table Basics

    Skill Shot

One rollover will be light as you shoot, hitting the lit Rollover will reward 50,000 Points.

    Extra Ball

Advancing the Multiplier via the rollovers to 10x will light the Extra Ball. Then shoot the Science Award Ramp to collect it. This is MUCH easier with the March 2011 update as now the bumper have more “bounce” to them. Tips to advancing the multiplier - Firing a light shot on the orbits that drops on the bumpers, nudging the table up as the ball passes over the bumpers and intentionally fail the Electro Blast Mission (see below) so you can repeat it over and over, and use the right orbit diverter from that mission to advance the multiplier. Personal Note - An Extra Ball animation will appear on the UMD when you achieve it but, Honestly, as much effort as it takes, I think there should be a sound clip of Pepper Pots orgasming or something. Just saying.

    Kickbacks
Kickbacks are activated by lighting the T H R U S T lanes. Lighting T H R will activate the left lane kickback and lighting U S T will activate the right lane kickback. You can change the lit lane by flipping the flipper, allowing you to light them all without draining a ball down the outlanes. Activating the kickbacks is very easy due to the predictable nature of the ball returns and the amount of time given the chance each lit/unlit lane. Note: The March 2011 Update also changed the Inlane/Outlane so that you can NOT light them by rolling over them "backwards" (i.e. Having the ball roll up from the bottom of the table). Before the update, you could actually relight a kickback by using the kickback to light the final lane.

    Ball Save
Hit the four small targets next to the ramps to activate the Ball Save for a short amount of time.

    COMBOS

As you will see in most pinball tables, you can acquire combos to gain more points when shooting ramps and orbits. Repeating the same shot again will not advance the combo.

    Missions
There are two types of mission – The first type are “true” missions and involve Whiplash and Mandarin. Each successful mission completion is worth 5 Million Points.

    The Six missions are -
    Mandarin Flame Blast
    Mandarin Vortex Storm
    Mandarin Impact Beam
    Mandarin Electro-Blast
    Whiplash Attack
    Whiplash and Mandarin

Once missions are complete they will be lit by a solid blue backing light on the table.

These missions involve shooting specific ramps, orbits and targets as dictated until the mission ends in success or your ball drains.

    Mandarin Flame Blast

This mission is timed. You must hit the three mission hole targets, lighting them up. Once you have done this, the targets will drop and you must shoot the ball into the mission hole. Once you have done this, holes at the bottom of the ramps will light up, shooting the ball into these holes will Damage Mandarin. Hit a set number of holes to complete the mission.

    Mandarin Vortex Storm
Starting this mission will activate a multi-ball. You must then hit every orbit/ramp at least once (this can be done in any order). Once you have done this, the mission hole will light up and you must lock all remaining balls into the mission hole to successfully complete this mission. Tips - During the Vortex Storm, typically the hardest ramp to hit is the Science ramp, which requires using the upper flipper. To get this one consistently, you trap one ball on the left flipper, and the other ball(s) on the right flipper, then use the left flipper to send the ball up the Stark Tower, and left flipper again to shoot it to the Science ramp on the way down, all while holding the other ball(s) on the right flipper. Alternatively, you can let a couple of balls drain while the ball save is active at the very beginning off the mission and nail the science ramp when the game re-shoots the balls into play. Also, you can drain the multi-ball down to 2 or 3 balls before hitting the final ramp. This means less balls to lock in, less chance to lose them.

    Mandarin Impact Beam
You must hit the lit ramps and orbits to increase Iron Man's Strength. Each successful shot moves the impact point closer to Mandarin (and earns you 100k points). This is NOT a timed mode. After hitting all the ramps you must lock the ball into the Mission Hole. Mission Complete earns you 5 Million.

    Mandarin Electro-Blast
You must restart Iron Man's Suit by shooting the flashing ramps. Once you have hit the flashing ramps, a hurry-up will start. During this mode, you must shoot the spinners and/or hit the bumpers. This is made much easier by the fact a divertor will now deflect orbit shots into the bumpers/roll-overs. Note- Many people will fail this mission on purpose in order to re-start it to advance the multiplier.

    Whiplash Attack
Shoot the flashing ramps/Orbits that are blinking to defeat him. Note: Whiplash can “destroy” a ball that passes in front of him by whipping it. If this happens, the game will fire a new ball onto the playing field. Note that the lit ramps cycle every 30 seconds or so and that this mission is NOT timed. If a current lit ramp is a dangerous shot, you can hold the ball and wait for the ramps to cycle to a easier/safer shot. Reward for this mission is 5 million.

    Whiplash and Mandarin

You will have to shoot each of the flashing lanes. Upon successfully completing this portion, The Stock Market ramp and Party Ramp will have holes uncovered. Shoot either of those holes to load the cannon/repulsor ray, which you will then fire at Whiplash by pressing the flipper or shoot button. If your timing if off, your shot will be "blocked" and you have to shoot one of the ramps/holes to try again. Three hits are needed to defeat Whiplash. Tips - When the cannon gets loaded, the game puts a target on Whiplash, either high, middle, or low. You want to time your shot so that the top of the cannon is just under this target (if the cannon is moving up).

    Default Part 2

    Stark Missions
The Stark Missions are mostly repeated shots to ramps and orbits. You progress each Stark Mission by shooting the labeled ramp twice. The first shot will get the level/ramp flashing, and the second shot will advance the level. Each mission levels progression is signaled by a DMD animation and a sound clip. Once you have progressed a ramp to Level 4, the corresponding mission name on table will light solid. The S.H.I.E.L.D. Missions are a bit different as I will explain below:

Stark Mission scoring (Each Level Advancement)– 40k,, 80k,,120k,160k – Mission Complete. (You may repeat these for the same scoring multiple times)

    The Six Stark Missions are:
    Stock Market
    Stark Tower
    Science Award
    Party
    S.H.I.E.L.D. Multi-ball
    S.H.I.E.L.D. Target Practice

    Stock Market
Shoot the Stock Market ramp Eight Times.

    Stark Tower
Shoot the Stack Tower ramp Eight Times.

    Science Award
Shoot the Science Award ramp Eight Times. This is by far the easiest one to achieve as this ramps dumps the ball back onto itself with each successful completion.

    Party Ramp
Shoot the Party ramp Eight Times. Probably the hardest ramp to hit.

    S.H.I.E.L.D. Multi-ball
To complete the Multi-ball mission, you simply need to activate the multi-ball (there's no scoring requirement.) To do this, you have to hit the ball lock which is guarded by two drop targets ( located to the left of the right orbit and to the right of the Science/Party ramps). Hit the drop targets twice each to drop them, and then shoot the VUK to lock a ball. Once you've locked three balls, multi-ball begins. Simply starting the Multi-Ball mode counts as a successful completion of the mission but you can earn Jackpots and Super Jackpots by completing the light ramps/orbits. TIP: The lock ball targets are easier to hit using the RIGHT flipper and a soft backhand shot than using the left. Using the left flipper has more power and more chance of a drain.

    S.H.I.E.L.D. Target Practice
To activate Target Practice you must repeatedly shoot the two orbit shots. The first shot will light a S.H.I.E.L.D. Icon and the second shot will then award the Icon. Each orbit has three Icons (So, a total of 6 shots to each orbit is required. . Once all three on both orbits are lit, you must shoot the Stark Tower ramp, which will divert the ball to the upper play field for the cannon mini-game. Once again, you do NOT have to complete this mode to get credit for completing the mission. Each flipper controls one Cannon, pressing the Right Flipper firsts the right cannon and Left Flipper fires the left cannon. Scoring is based on knocking down all the targets in the alloted time. The faster you achieve this, the more points you score (The UMD has a score countdown displayed during this mission).

    Ultimo Mission
Successfully completing all 12 (!) missions will activate Ultimo's Mission.

As this mission begins, Ultimo will come up from the center of the table and a 4-ball multi-ball will begin. The objective is to hit the flashing ramps or orbits. A successful shot will make the ball used for the shot to become “on fire.” You then need to hit Ultimo's body with the flaming ball. To complete this mode you must hit Ultimo with 10 flaming balls. It is much harder than it sounds as Ultimo will use his arms to deflect shots, and will pick up balls with his hands and fling them back at you. You will drop out of this mode once you are down to 1 ball.
Scoring is 1Mil per successful hit with a flaming ball and a 10Mil completion bonus if Ultimo is defeated.

You can find Cloda's Guide to the Wizard mode Here.

    End of Ball Bonuses-
End of Ball Bonuses are based on the number of missions, etc.. that you complete with THAT ball. This are multiplied by any multiplier you may have achieved (duh). Score is also based on the number of that TYPE of mission you completed. For Instance, if you beat a single Iron Man mission the base bonus is 10k. However, if you beat two, it is 50k, Three is 100k, etc....

Honor - Simple lost ball bonus?
Stark - Based on the number of Stark Mission you completed.
S.H.I.E.L.D. - Based on the Shield Missions completed (?)
Iron Man - Based on Iron Man missions completed.
Uni Beam - Lighting the UNI BEAM Targets.

    Achievements

    1. Defeat Whiplash and Mandarin.

For this achievement, you must complete all of the Whiplash and Mandarin Missions.
The title of this achievement is a little misleading because, although there is a mission entitled "Whiplash and Mandarin," completing this mission alone does not unlock the achievement.

    2. Complete all of the Stark Missions.
Complete the Six Stark Missions to get this achievement. This includes the two S.H.I.E.L.D. Missions.
This is by far the easiest of the achievements to get.

    3. Defeat Ultimo
Simply complete all the Stark Missions and all the Whiplash.Mandarin Missions, trigger Ultimo and take him down to earn this achievement. Easy stuff!

General Tips (Most taken from OzV1 post HERE

-I only take the SHIELD multiball shot (ball lock) when a ball save is active. As your ball launches if your quick enough you can get 2 ball locked before you lose the save. Also with practice its actually easier to use the right flipper and use a soft backshot. Much less risk.
-The right orbit shot is somewhat dangerous on this table mainly because a miss could hit the SHIELD ball lock target and cause a bad deflection. For this reason I never take a shot at right orbit with a fast ball. I have found the best and most consistent way is to hit left orbit and let the ball just hit the flipper while they are down. It will bounce nicely from the right onto the left but by doing this the ball has a little backspin and makes right orbit shot easier and less risky. I also only try to do this shot when I have a ball save but most of the time this is the last thing I have to do to get to Ultimo so I have found this is a good way.
-When a ball comes out of the mission hole, it comes out in an awkward way. I always try to time it so I shoot up the TOWER ramp. I then use the top left flipper to roll the ball down onto the right flipper to trap the ball.

Nice guide... I love this table. Its the lowest scoring and most difficult in the Marvel pack, but still a hell of a lot of fun. I was actually planning on doing an Iron Man guide. I guess I will try and get one out for Wolverine in the next few days

I was considering this as well... additional tip (if you wat to add a tips area or something)...

TIP: The lock ball targets are easier to hit using the RIGHT flipper as you can back the ball into them safer than aiming with the left. The left flipper causes a chance to drain.

Just something to add if you agree.

Nice guide though and great explanation of the table (I love this table; almost completed it fully but the last mode is very hard).

I think he will be ok. I believe that is the guy just one below me on the Wolverine table at #9. It has become my favourite and most played table.

Yep that's me I love the table as well. Although Fastball Special gets on my nerves to the point where I just trap the ball and let it time out.

I am still a little bitter from that game though. I completely wasted my ball 3... Drained it in about 45 seconds after launching it. I was so mad because I thought I would finally break a billion. Still haven't been able to do it yet.

I am #9 on both Wolverine and Iron Man. My highest spots on the LB as of now. I have been higher, but people keep knocking me down, lol. I think my Iron man score was 4th or 5th when I posted it 2 months ago.

I will try to start typing up the Wolverine guide tonight

Anyone know the amount of points you get for beating Ultimo? I want to add it to the guide.

Thanks for spending the time to create a guide for this table. The Iron Man table is a table I seem to have issues with. Your guide will make things just that much easier.

Any tips for approaching and completing Ultimo mode? I can reach him now at least twice in one game but I have not been able to hit him with more than four fire balls. I'm seriously getting sick at having to repeat all the missions again. It is actually such a repetitive table - my scores even end up being the same each time I play through the missions once and fail at Ultimo - always around 50 Million!!!

    Don't Panic! LOL
    Seriously,
Tips I have heard - Try it with only two balls, letting the others drain. Much easier to control and trap with only two balls. Then again, I know others who have tried with two balls and failed various times, so... go with what you are comfortable with.

Focus your aim in the Stark Tower Ramp,The Left Orbit and the Stock Market ramp. Ultimo doesn't do certain movements at certain times, use this to your advantage.

If you are doing the hold method, remember that the lanes will switch after a bit of time, try to learn the pattern and when they are about to switch.

Consider going into the setting and making the game easier so that they crunch time nerves go away when you reach him. If you have beaten him before you know what to expect, sure your score won't count but the experience does.

Thanks for the nicely written guide.

I have a tip that can apply to a number of different tables (e.g. Pasha), but I think it is most important for this one. Manage your kickbacks efficiently.

Side drains are not uncommon on this table, so always keep kickback lit. When your kickbacks are already lit, put effort into keeping 2 and only 2 lanes lit on each side at all times. That way, when you use a kickback, you only need 1 or 2 easy shots to the left ramp to renew your kickback, depending on which way it is diverting.

    Hope that helps.

Definitely something that should be done on all tables but Ironman especially seems to attract those balls to dem outlanes

So, I've been trying to complete the full 5-way combo on Iron Man last night, but just can't seem to get it right. Any of you wizards know if there's a hidden reward for keeping the combo going through the 5 ramps/orbits?

According to my stat sheet I have done over 20 Mach V combos during my playtime on Iron Man. I haven't noticed anything really special about completing. I don't play with "Arcade FX" so I don't have a clue on how many points these combos award. (I get distracted by the white ball trail)

Gave this table another go and reached Ultimo 2 times this evening. Unfortunately I totally suck at multiballs. Anyway, I'll get lucky eventually, it's only a matter of time.

Seems like Mars will be the last table to complete and I'm not sure if I'll ever make it through. The table's so boring for me, I'd have to force myself to play it and the pyramid mission is a nice mixture of multiball, lottery and a pretty hard lock at the end. Beating this single mission seems impossible, let alone doing it in a game where you don't mess up the rest.

Yeah, it is luck based, alright. Checking my stats, i tried it 302 times and passed it 4 . Not that i'm the best player in the world, of course, but it stands on a different level among all others mission in the table...and maybe in the entire game. Still, i love Mars... Speaking about iron man, i've reached Ultimo 6 times and failed...but now i can reach him every time (well, almost) so i know it's just a matter of time before i beat him.

Default End of Ball Bonus guide

    Honor bonus
    10,000 points per ball
    Default bonus

    Iron Man Mission
10,000 points per successful Iron Man mission (Whiplash/Mandarin) per ball

    Tony Stark Mission
50,000 points completion of ramp objective (Stark Tower, Party, Science, Stock Market) per ball
It appears that you get the bonus again if you complete the objective again before the Wizard mode

    SHIELD bonus
50,000 points activation of a SHIELD mini-game (multiball or tower) per ball

    Unibeam bonus
50,000 points per lighting of all 7 UNIBEAM letters on both sides of the table.

Summary - pretty low scoring, like the rest of the table. Main reason to try to raise the multiplier is that it's the only way to get an extra ball on the table.
Tables completed: Ms Splosion Man, Spiderman, BioLab, Captain America, Empire Strikes Back, The Avengers, Wolverine, World War Hulk, Sorcerer's Lair, Fantastic Four, Blade, X-Men, Thor, Moon Knight, Infinity Gauntlet, Super League Football, Starfighter Assault, Han Solo
Billionaire's Club: Spider-Man, World War Hulk, The Avengers, Sorcerer's Lair, Empire Strikes Back, Captain America, Ms. Splosion Man, Han Solo
