    Default PFX3 Backglass Videos

I'm wanting to create some custom animations for my cabinet's Backglass and share them here.
(I'm running PFX3 via Steam on a custom cabinet)

So If I understand past comments correctly, PFX2 allowed for Backglass assets to be video (not just a static graphics) via PFX for both in the front end selector as well as playing the table itself. I also understand that this work around capability has changed for PFX3 via the PinballX/Game Manager method and no longer works. Is there any other way for us 3-monitor cab users to use video assets for the Backglass while "in game" that I've missed in my searching the various forums? I'm not sure if I want to commit the time I would if I can't use my custom video backglasses while in the game itself.

Currently working on some for the new PFX3 Williams/Ballys Classic tables. Here's an example for a KISS backglass I'm tinkering with as well for when I can finally find and install a 2015 Stern KISS table for my cabinet. cough cough help cough cough...

Anyways, I would spend a heck of a lot time creating some cool backglasses to share if they could be used during gameplay for PFX3...
    "help me help you"...

Default Attack From Mars Animated Backglass

Here's one of the Bally backglasses I'm working on...

**updated video 4/2/19** now loops seamless

    Loads more to do here.

    - Both UFO's will be animated. The UFO that is animated now will change as the light pattern for both will look like the lights are rotating instead of flashing as they are now.

    - Aliens will have full limb articulation and motion.

    - Current explosions are place keepers for now.

    - More motion to come for the surrounding city/scene including a passing elevated train.

    Default Jurassic World Animated Backglass

Also tinkering with a Jurassic Park backglass... all of these are works in progress. Hopefully we'll be able to use these in-game...
**updated video 4/3/19** now seamless loop

This is just a working concept at the moment.

    - When completed, this will look like the Dino is "walking" with the logo rattling with each step and the camera view floating with each step as well.

    - More lava and debris to come.

    - This scene actually might change to be used for Jurassic Park Pinball Mayhem while I create a version more true to the night scene view from the mouth as the original artwork depicted.

    - Maybe some circling Teradac... flying lizards.

Why bother to create something that can't be used?
    PFX3 don't support animated backglasses.

I hear ya! However... these do look nice in the front end selection when a table hasn't been selected yet. I think I'll create a new list in my front end that only has the tables I have my animated backglasses for. That way while hangin out with friends and havin a beer/watchin a game, only very cool backglasses/tables will be shown to "attract".

I will also create a new still from the animation that will be used while playing a table so the backglasses match. When I "finish" an animation, I'll post the video here with a link for download that will have both the animation and matching still graphic.

-Side note, doing my best to have the animations loop seamlessly like the above updated Attack From Mars and Jurassic World videos. The above examples are all works in progress and are half completed.

    Universal Back To The Future

BTTF is pretty much final. That could change in 2055 though.

Can these be downloaded for use in PinballX as the backglass? They would need to be f4v. I think I read somewhere that a download link can be put on a youtube video.

When I am ready to share them it will be a download from my server of a zipped file of the original render. YouTube compresses uploaded videos for use on their site and look horrible in comparrison.

As far as f4v vs mp4, they both work for use in the front end, but currently do not work in-game/pfx3. I am hopefull that Zen changes this and goes back to allowing video files for the backglass while in-game. Zen... buddy... come on man!

Default Williams Medieval Madness animated pinball backglass -early work-in-progress

Williams Medieval Madness animated pinball backglass
    - Very early work-in-progress, maybe 20% complete.
    - All fire elements are just place holders at the moment.
    - All character movements are just testing purposes only... as is just about everything at this point!
    - Lots of work yet to be done on the castle and characters in the scene.
    - King, and Dragon will have full body/appendage articulation. (which is fun just playing around with the appendage controls!!)
    - Enjoy the sneak peek, this is a fun one!

Feedback is always welcomed as well as cool ideas too!

Thanks man. These original backglasses are indeed great works of art. I hope that if the original artists of these backglasses were to ever see my inspired work from theirs, they would dig it too.

Default Williams Medieval Madness animated pinball backglass - STILL a work-in-progress

Starting to come together. still a lot of work to do.
    Added:
    - Trolls w/ blinking eyes, basic jittery movement, blowin smoke and shakin the spear
    - Dragon's fire breath revealing castle tower damage
    - Knight hanging on the Dragon's tail being all stabby
    - Wizard casting spells
    - Kings sword ignites when touching the flame in the logo
    - Castle gate opens/closes
    - Fixed some clipping issues with the Dragons belly when taking a deep breath and some wing issues
    - and added a scrolling night sky with a moon.... for a cow to eventually jump over

and still maybe 50% complete! =)x

much much MUCH more to come! Back to making money to pay the bills for now... will update this baby again when I can.

Default UNIVERSAL - JAWS - animated backglass

Here's a simple JAWS one I did a while back, but due to its simplicity, I didn't post until now. I had thought about animating the woman swimming across the screen only to be taken out by the shark, water turning blood red as JAWS descended back down into the depths... but decided to add a simple water tweak instead holding more true to the classic art. Simple but effective.

    Default Legal ramifications

It has come to my attention that what I am doing here, by animating these backglasses, I am opening myself up to possible copyright and intellectual properties infringement... if I were to share these for download. While I may do this for my personal machine, once I share them, I would be disassembling and distributing a copy-protected piece of work.

While I haven't received a cease and desist notification, I am now wondering if my hobby could harm me. Not sure what to do. Ideas? Comments? Any history that addresses this issue here?

I obviously am not attempting to resell these in any manner, so I would think there is no harm to the license holder or original artist... but I'm not an attorney.

Zen Studios... could you also possibly shed some light here with your thoughts please?

I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV.

I don't think your work would be at the top of the list for copyright violations. I would believe the Virtual Pinball that has the ROMs and other images would be high on the list. Your not making money on them. The worst I would image would be a cease and desist letter.

Gottlieb fiercely defends their copyrighted materials. The ROMs have been removed from the virtual pin site and those that reproduce art works. And i believe they sent a letter to cease, not actual money penalties or the like.

You probably don't have anything to worry about, since Zen hasn't told you to stop or deleted your thread.

Zen has said multiple time in the past, that they read every thread that is made here.

    Default Thanx everyone

Thanx for the feedback... I would think what I'm doing would be welcomed, but everyone is so freakin' sue happy these days you never know. I've noticed there isn't anywhere on Zens' forum here where we can share any media like this with the community. Am I not seeing it? If so, where would you like me to upload these for you all to enjoy on your cabs?

I currently have finished and ready to share Champion Pub, Back to the Future, E.T., and Jaws. Since Medieval Madness is still a ways off from being completed, my last "work render" loops seamlessly and could be shared now too for those who can't wait to put it on their cab... like me. It looks awesome. Seriously.
