Table suggestion ... request... whatever you want to call it. I'm loving all of the table requests / wants / suggestions I'm seeing, but if I were a Zen developer, it'd be terribly hard to find all of the great suggestions and not miss one that was in some random, totally unrelated topic. So, I'd like to suggest we gather them and add to them in a specific thread.

Since licensing is an issue I am assuming that Zen will be sticking to mostly self created tables so here are a few of my ideas for custom tables.

I.T. Table based on us poor lan janitors who work in the computer field. Gremlins in the system, virus's, etc etc.

Hair bands and Heavy Metal, c'mon who doesn't want to play a cheesy hairband / metal music based pinball machine throw some dragons in there too

Zombie apocalypse...go ahead and jump on the bandwagon while it's universally hot. I have loved zombie movies for 30 years and would love to see a table based on the genre

A bettter Hot Rod/Classic car style board. Not a fan of V12 and I am a gearhead

Post apocalyptic. I am a huge Fallout series fan, and even though I am sure you would never get licensing to do a Fallout based table a cool post apocalyptic table would be a blast.

here's one of my favs.

Back to the future - where you go to from 1985 to 1955/2015/1885 The ramps generally stay the same but other areas of the table changes depending on the year. I think it could be done.


Tombstone Could be a cool western theme. We haven't had a western themed table yet.

And I agree with you, Madmikeee, that all of these would be horrific to work deals out with, but I never claimed they were *doable*, just that they were theme suggestions. And to add to your original table idea:

Mother Nature: Fire, Wind, Water, Tornado, etc either work in harmony or wreck havoc on the world
Political Race(s): Red v Blue, Donkeys and Elephants, paper-cut outs of generic head shapes on sticks
Cats vs Dogs: (not necessarily the movie, but a generalized take on the same concept)
Competitive Horse Jumping: horse jumping competitions used to be pretty huge... could still be fun as a pinball game
Hockey / Basketball / Football / Baseball etc : Again, generalized concepts with no names / brands
Air Hockey: (I played an awesome version of just such a virtual pinball in one of the Windows open-source programs with an insane amount of flippers going in both directions, so that you had to be able to 'beat yourself', if you will)

They could do a table based off the One Thousand and One Nights aka the Arabian Nights. It's not quite Aladdin so you won't be able to hear Robin Williams, but the source material is much larger in scope anyway. By the same principle, I believe Grimm's Fairy Tales, Aesops fables, Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales, the works of Homer, and Edgar Allen Poe's tales are all public domain.

When in doubt, just do a Gumby table.

I must be old. All those ideas sounded terrible to me except the sports themed tables and maybe back to the future. What's with all the cartoons/pixar themes. I think archer is the only cartoon that has been mentioned that i would be interested in. And i only say that because zen has 0 comedy themed tables. Some comedy themed tables would be a nice change.

Nice list. If I had to pick just one of those it would definitely be Final Fantasy. Especially if it was based on FFVII.

Thank you for your input, surf, but I'm not trying to offend anyone or even suggest that everyone should buy every table they see. (In fact, I'm having a hard time grasping this mentality on these forums that some people seem to hold about 'I must buy every Zen table they ever make. Because I am a Zen zombie. Even if I do not like a table, I must buy it and I must play it. Braaaaiinnnzzzz!') I'm not even suggesting that ANY of the table themes I suggest would sell well, because I know most of them wouldn't. (If you were to ask me to only post table ideas that would create high profits, I couldn't say a word, because I'm not trained in that business.) That is up to the Zen (marketing? play-testing?) team to decide.

I was simply trying to collect my and others "wish list" of themes they *might* like to see. Because as a new non-lurker to the forums, I found them incrediby disorganized and chaotic with information repeated or hard to find or simply in a forum for a different platform (where I may never look!).

I think Zen could do a good job on a western theme without needing a license. It seems most of us want a mature table or two added to the mix like a mob table. While I'm not opposed to the sports theme table that some are suggesting, I only envision golf making a decent table. A 4 pack of sports would probably be Zen's lowest selling pack.

You mentioned a couple of themes that I would LOVE to do a table for: Ratchet & Clank (I'm good friends with Insomniac's Community Manager, and I constantly bug him about it.. haha) and Walking Dead!! Oh and Minecraft too... that would be nuts!

I like the idea of using iconic games from smaller studios as they have done with Plants Vs Zombies (sorry if that's considered a derogatory comment regarding PopCap).
I think games such as Limbo and Joe Danger would make for fantastic tables.
Using legendary characters from history may also be a way to go. A Genghis Khan table or a Julius Caesar table for example.
I'm also loving the suggestions for a fishing/tropical fish table. I'm sure you guys at ZEN could make a stunning table with a water theme.

I like the Marvel Tables, and I like the PvZ table but...

I'd like to see Zen make tables of their own, or use ideas from the forum. I see a thread about sports tables; that sounds good. I saw a thread somewhere where a guy suggested Leonardo Di'Vinci (not a clue if that's spelt correctly), and I thought that was a great idea; imagine the Tesla designer let loose with that. I think I saw an idea for Atlantis somewhere, making me think of the table flooding during play.

I don't see the need to constantly licence things of other companies, with all the expense and handshaking that must be needed. Surely the forum and Zen are more than capable of having loads of cool table ideas. I bet Zen don't sell more just because it says Marvel, although I could be wrong.

My cool idea would be a quad pack that only played as a single table...stay with me here. So when you trigger certain features you were able to teleport, or roll through, to the next table; then to others or back to the first...I think that's clear. Perhaps it could be the Four Elements, or some other quad-like theme.

I agree with you to an extent, although I am sure licensing well-known names like Marvel does help their sales. But I totally agree with letting Zen create more original tables and I love your progression table idea with four elements or seasons or anything really. I would love to see a multi-layered table with a fantasy theme where adventurers could delve into the Underworld, which would open up a new table below the original playing surface. I would like to see less "regulation style" tables is what it boils down to basically.

A table that captures the vibe of claymation creature movies the way that Earth Defence gets the old alien invasion movies... can draw inspiration from Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, 20,000,000 Miles to Earth, anything by Ray Harryhausen, or even older flicks like Lost World and King Kong.

Atlantis--before or after sinking... or maybe it sinks during the game (table shakes & colors change, or the two level idea already mentioned) It's a sunken utopian city that doesn't require licensing. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Bioshock!

Loved the literary theme suggestion (my vote is Alice in Wonderland... but also loved the ones already suggested), and I would love an art themed table too... something like Starry Starry Night as a pinball table.

Something along the lines of Blade Runner or Metropolis. Even just a general cyberpunk/futuristic theme. Hopefully with some kind of android or cyborg.

True there but we have a few off the hero/villain tables as well scattered among the same theme. An Uncharted theme would not hurt my eyes alongside El Dorado wich I enjoy as well as the adventuring stuff is nice.

My god man thats excelent.. Come to think of it.. A long long time ago on the MSX platform.. so basicaly around '83 ish there was a pinball game on it, forgot it's name though, wich basicaly had 3 tables stacked on top of each other.

You launched into play in the topmost area and tried to keep it in play there, when it drained the game moved to the middle segment and down to third where it actualy could drain. However.. you also could, with some skill, fire the ball up from segment 3 to segment 2 and further to 1 if you could make the shot.

Gah.. i hate that i forgot the name but for it's era that was a pretty nifty pinballer.

Time Warp Table.

I would like to see a table that had some of the elements of the older tables such as mechanical scoring, where they would click as the numbers went around a wheel as the score increased, the sound effects of the old style bumpers that gave a little bell ring sound as they were hit, and with some really neat 1950s style items in it such as a 1950s style car with rocket lights, chrome, and winged body ... and other 50s things too .. Jukebox, toaster ... what ever ... and of course 1950s style music playing.

But as you play the table and hit certain targets in a certain order or accomplish certain goals .... the 1950s items, sounds, backgrounds, music, mechanical scoring, bumper sounds ... would be transformed to futuristic items .... the 50s car would turn into a spaceship ...etc ... the mechanical scoring would become electronic, the sound future techno ... etc.

Piece by Piece and bit by bit you could change sections of the table from the past to the future or from the future back to the past ... and the goals will also change depending on the environment ...

To accomplish certain goals, you may have to have elements of both the 50s and the future on the table at the same time and depending on what elements are on the table at any given time, and from what time, your goals will change accordingly.

A mix of the old and new, a RetroBlast if you will

Besides the time warp table I suggested, the table I would really want the most would be an ORIGINAL STAR TREK table. I want the original sounds, voices, and an excellent table layout. Licensing would be a bitch but perhaps a kickstart program would help. Forget Picard, I want the unflappable Captain James T kirk ... and of course that sexy green lady !!!

Post-apocolyptic theme (don't forget the mutant rats)
Grandfather clock theme? (kinda hard to visualize but lots of gears, hands, timed shots, etc.)
Economic/Business theme (start a business, deal with expenses, yada yada)
Black and White style table (could take a film noir theme)

On a much lighter note and has been suggested since the Pop Cap license of Pvs Z:

Peggle

The back/upright part of the table (like the house section of Paranormal) would be the Peggle playfield. Once the ball enters the upper area through whatever means, the view would zoom in to that section full screen and the Peggle aiming/shooting would begin. This has awesome gameplay elements and I really hope we see this happen.

I'd like one as well. The iconic opening scene from "The Verdict", which features Paul Newman playing the table "Disco Fever", is one of the most memorable in cinema's history. While I couldn't find a good video of that table, here is one from around that time:

For a music table, why not Kickbeat? you could do all sorts with that from a mini table with enemies ala dragons revenge / alien crush, to rhythm based targets lighting up and a change in music changing the play fields layout/ruleset. Again just throwing out ideas.

For a sports table why not a planet mini golf table? instead of the various missions on the table, you could have a main table then 18 very small tables each with a theme, a launcher and a damn hard shot to make, some launcher only and some with a set amount of flipper uses or if that don't float your boat, maybe each flipper use subtracts from your overall bonus after hopefully making the shot, this would keep that par feeling golf has.

I just think its a good idea to be a bit shameless and promote your own stuff :P plus no license fees lol

Just my suggestion : HIGH SCHOOL KID (a generic theme)

How about being a kid/boy works his way to college with :

- exams /tests
- getting a girlfriend
- making friends
- avoiding / beating a bully
- partying
- finally... gratuation!

- bumpers for studying (the more you hit, the higher the exam bonus will be)
- ball drain is "go see the principal!"

- party multiball! (every ramp is a drink, but dont drink too much or you'll lose the bonus. after a certain amount of ramps you should hit the "go home" sinkhole to cash in

- crush multiball. You have to hit on your crush so she will be your girl. (can be completed only once but has a huge jackpot)

- bully multiball (bumpers is punching the guy, ramps are running away. Finishing either way will complete the multiball. Repeatable multiball quite easy to obtain)

- english
- math
- chemestry
- gymnastics
- french
- etc...

missions can be redone for higher grades (if you score lower the 2nd time the 1st will still count). You have to complete about 6 of the 8 missions to advance to gratuation.
the final mission ramp score is based on your mission grades.

I was wondering if you could also make zen pinball table for rides in the theme park. For ex. Disney World Magic Kingdom- The haunted Mansion Ride, Epcot- Mission to Space , Animal Kingdom- Expedition Everest, and MGM Studios- The tower of terror, also more rides. Also Six Flag Great Adventure Rides ex. The Dark Knight Coaster, The Green lantern Coaster and many more. Basically using theme parks ride in the real world and then converting them in to pinball table for each rides. There are many more theme park that i have not listed, but hopefully you get the ideas what i am trying to say. Zen Pinball Tables is the best Pinball table game in the whole wide world.

So many great ideas in here! Someone above mentioned a Doctor Who table…now THAT I’d be pretty keen on. I really like the idea of holiday themed and classic games tables as well.

There are some classic movies that would make great tables like Wizard of OZ, Willy Wonka and Mary Poppins. Just about every Pixar IP would make for a great table (an Incredibles or Monster’s Inc table would be sweet) as would Nightmare Before Christmas.

For original tables, some ‘period pieces’ might work out nicely, like tables themed around the 50’s (greasers and beatnicks) or 70’s (a disco themed table with a reflective disco-ball to hit around would be fun) and even a 1600’s Pirates theme table would be neat.

Of course, there are a bunch of existing game which would make for great ZP2 tie-ins: SSX, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, and Little Big Planet come to mind.

A TV show that would make for a fun table would be ‘The Aquabat’s Super Show’. While the Aquabats have been around a while, the TV show is still pretty new. I’m not sure of ratings numbers and demographics, but it may prove to be a somewhat inexpensive license and perhaps enough of a draw to make it viable.

The one license I would love to see, but I know I never will as its pretty niche, would be a Mystery Science Theater 3000 table. Now THAT would be the ultimate in geek-pinball, heh heh.

Anyway... The strong point of ZEN is that the themes are except from the Marvell tables very generic and that's what make them timeless and will keep the replay value.
E.g. People who dont like pixar would'nt buy those tables in the first place, so the more generic, the better. (Believe me. I love every Zen table, even the marvell tables since it has been released on the vita) But if Zen came up with a FRIENDS, Southpark or House theme I refuse to buy it

Little sidenote. Since pinball is basicly for game fans, video game tables are quite safe to do in my opinion.

So... that sayed, here's my suggestions...


1.
An evolution table (maybe not suitable for christians though hehe, so I cancelled out a bit my earlier statement
Goal : Start off as a 1-cell organism and work your way up to a superhuman.

2.
Panic in the kitchen table.
Be an amateur cook and try to make some great dishes and work your way up to a master chef.
Goal : Make a great dish in a big restaurant for the fat president.
This table is all humor

3.
City Domination!
You're a tiny insignificant mouse but have the urge to rule the City by force!
Mobelising insects, manipulating other animals with mind controling devicec etc etc...
Goal : Control every human in the city
Again a humoristic table.

4.
Aaaaand ACTION!
Movie director themed
Goal : Make a great Hollywood movie by getting actors (fictional names like John Boyman, Lisa Biggens) and collecting money
Humoristic table with a fat bearded ugly and screaming movie director.

Drain ball = OK.... CUT!

I like this idea! A better way to tackle this table is for it to be a large rotating cube. Think of the cube in the Paranormal table, but the whole table is the cube. Once you activate a mission, the table flips to a different playfield.

On a much lighter note and has been suggested since the Pop Cap license of Pvs Z:

Peggle

The back/upright part of the table (like the house section of Paranormal) would be the Peggle playfield. Once the ball enters the upper area through whatever means, the view would zoom in to that section full screen and the Peggle aiming/shooting would begin. This has awesome gameplay elements and I really hope we see this happen.

I'd bet money on a Peggle table being made. There was a video interview with a guy from PopCap and he stated that they really wanted to do a Peggle table first but ultimately it was decided that a PvZ table would do better initially.

I hear peggle as a pinball theme a lot. But isn't peggle basically a glorified pachinko/bagatelle machine. If you have an iOS device, play bagatelle pinball. It is boring and rewards luck more than skill as opposed to pinball which rewards skill more than luck.

I know, others have suggested it, but I certainly want to support that by adding in my vote. I'm a sucker for a good western. Get some music and themes that are inspired by the Dollars Trilogy and I'll be there will bells on... or spurs. Or completely pantsless since I'll be in my living room anyway, so what do you care? ;-)

Dinosaurs
I do loves me some dinosaurs, ever since I was a kid. I remember the Jurassic Park pinball machine that had that great Tyrannosuarus head that would gobble up the pinball if it landed in the right spot on the table. Man, that was a hoot. Now, I don't mean to suggest that you should do something identical... that would be stupid. Just dinosaur themed, preferably scientifically accurate because I'm just a little too nit picky. While the meteor theory isn't generally taken seriously by the paleontology community, the visual of a meteor slamming into the board if triggered and causing havoc would be fantastic. Maybe that would be the multiball: the meteor crashes down, shatters into three pieces, those pieces being the balls.

With its colourful landscape and the different areas that are represented throughout the game's world, the table would likely be beautiful in its design. The missions almost write themselves through acquiring the cores and shards, dispatching squirts, gasbags, turrets and so forth. Having Rucks, the narrator, narrate the proceedings would be a must.

Some sort of visual representing the Bastion coming back into being would be important, as well. Not sure how that would work, whether in the upper center of the table or around the table's edge.

Like the idea of Rock band theme tables, maybe even dedicated to a particular song.
For example "Slade" Runaway table, or Gun N' Roses "Welcome to the jungle." Instead of marvel characters, you have the band set up different parts of the table, the ball could play various chords when hitting the correct ramp.
The genre would be pretty profitable and the bands themselves could have fun with it.
